The weekend arrived, and Ava found herself restless. After spending the previous evening reflecting on her conversation with Ethan in the park, she realized that there were still many unanswered questions swirling in her mind. She had become caught between the comfort of Lucas's steady support and the intensity of her feelings for Ethan. Each boy represented a different part of her life—Lucas, the quiet safety, and Ethan, the emotional whirlwind she couldn't escape.

Feeling trapped in her own thoughts, Ava decided to take a walk to clear her head. She wandered through the familiar streets, eventually finding herself outside a small café she often visited with her mother. The smell of coffee and the sight of people casually chatting inside gave her a sense of normalcy she had been craving.

As she sat down at a corner table with her iced latte, Ava pulled out her phone to check messages. She noticed that Lucas had texted her earlier that morning, asking if she was free to meet up. A sense of guilt gnawed at her. He had been so supportive, but she hadn't been completely honest with him about her confusion. She typed out a quick reply, agreeing to meet him later that afternoon at the park.

Moments after she hit send, a familiar figure walked into the café. It was Ethan. Ava's heart skipped a beat as their eyes locked. She hadn't expected to run into him, especially not here, but something in the way he looked at her made it impossible to ignore. He hesitated for a second, then approached her table.

"Hey, Ava," Ethan said, his voice soft and cautious. "Mind if I sit with you?"

Ava nodded, though her pulse quickened. "Of course. I wasn't expecting to see you here."

Ethan gave a small smile as he sat down across from her. "Yeah, I just needed to clear my head. Thought a coffee might help."

They sat in an uncomfortable silence for a moment, the tension between them palpable. Ava wasn't sure what to say or how to navigate the growing distance between them. She knew Ethan cared about her, but the weight of her own uncertainty made it difficult to fully engage.

"I've been thinking a lot about what's been going on between us," Ethan began, his voice tinged with hesitation. "I know things are confusing, but I want you to know that I'm not giving up on us. I... I can't just walk away from how I feel about you."

Ava looked at him, her chest tightening. The raw vulnerability in his voice struck her deeply. She wanted to respond, but the words felt tangled inside her.

Before she could speak, the café door swung open, and Lucas entered. His eyes scanned the room, and when they landed on Ava and Ethan sitting together, a flicker of surprise crossed his face. He approached their table slowly, clearly unsure of the situation he was walking into.

"Hey, Ava... Ethan," Lucas greeted, his tone even but with an underlying tension. "Didn't expect to see you both here."

Ethan shifted uncomfortably in his seat, and Ava felt the weight of the moment bear down on her. This was exactly the scenario she had been dreading. She glanced between the two boys, unsure of how to defuse the situation.

"We were just talking," Ava said, trying to keep her voice calm. "It wasn't planned."

Lucas gave a small nod, his expression unreadable. "Got it. Mind if I join you?"

Ethan's jaw tightened slightly, but he remained silent. Ava, feeling torn, forced a smile. "Sure, Lucas. You can sit."

The three of them sat at the small café table, the air thick with unspoken words and unresolved feelings. Ava could feel the tension radiating off both boys, and she wondered how much longer she could keep this fragile balance between them before something broke.

As they exchanged a few awkward pleasantries, Ava's mind raced. She knew this situation couldn't last. Sooner or later, she would have to make a choice—one that could change everything.

And deep down, she wasn't sure she was ready for that.
