"You haven't really changed. Not now, nor the last time I saw you. It is always about you and your ego, isn't it? Your ego is the one that should always be satisfied and others are just toys to be played with." She replied, smirking at him.
"What do you mean by that, huh? Is this how you talk to your father?" He yelled at her.
"Father? You disowned me. You disowned me, and even made it in writing. You lost all your rights on me that moment you signed it and told me to get out of the house." She yelled back, while all the painful memories came back.
She remembered the day quite clearly. She had flown down from Kashmir for her brother's wedding and it was the 3rd day after the wedding was over. She and her mother were arguing about something trivial when her father decided to intervene as usual and humiliated her. She lost her temper and started arguing with him as well while her brother and her new sister-in-law tried to console everyone. The fight had gone pretty bad and neither of them were ready to stop and compromise. She was absolutely exhausted due to her sudden emergency surgery and was upset about something. Her father never understood how he felt and that day wasn't anything different.
Both of them kept arguing and at the end, her father used his wild card.
"How dare you talk like this. You are so ungrateful. Being a surgeon doesn't give you a free pass on language and tone usage. I spent so much money on you, not for you to talk like this. I am the reason you get to do surgery now." Her anger knew no bounds, she decided to end this money matter once and for all.
She rushed off to her room, packed her suitcase and came back with her phone in her hand.
"I have transferred 75 lakhs to your account. It contains the money you spent, along with interest. If it is not enough, let me know, and I will send more. Let's end this drama once and for all, I am leaving and let it stay that way. I am your daughter, that doesn't need me to come visit you every month, so I will call you guys. Stay safe." She said and moved towards the door.
The last thing she heard from her father was 'you are no longer my daughter, I don't need such an insolent child who doesn't respect her parents.'
She was heartbroken and started shedding tears. Once she sat on her plane, she opened her phone to send them a text about the same, when she saw a picture of a paper that had the signature of both her parents under the writing that said that she was no longer their daughter and the next notification said that her number was blocked by her father.
More than upset, she felt betrayed that even her mother was a part of this and she started sobbing loudly.
Later, she received texts from her mother saying that she was compelled to follow and had no intentions of disowning her daughter, which Aadhyaa ignored.
She returned back to reality when her father slammed his hand on her desk to get her attention.
"What?" She asked him while he frowned at her.
"Where are you lost, huh?" He asked her while she just chuckled sadly.
"Look, I have no intentions of bringing or discussing the past, just tell me why you are here." She asked him.
"I came to ask you about why you never told any of us about you owning a hospital." He asked her.
"Correction, I don't own A hospital, I own a chain of hospitals and not just me, I co-own it along with Mayank. The reason being the same as why I was never told about Harshan being injured so much." She replied coolly.
"It is not a decision that I make or your mother makes. If you want to question, it's your brother's decision."He said, making her sigh.
"I didn't wanna tell you. What if you ended up taking credit for my hospitals as well?" She said, sneering. He glared at her.
"The real reason." He said through gritted teeth.
"Fine. I have a lot of rivals in my job and it doesn't need to be shared with you people. Apparently, my brother has enough rivals to deal with on his own. No one, except Mayank and his wife Anyra, know that I have a family living in Banglore." She explained, making him nod.
"Okay, so when are you coming back home?" He asked her.
"Umm, Never?" She said, laughing sarcastically, making him frown.
"What do you mean by never?" He asked her.
"I will be staying here, right here in my office room until I leave back to Delhi. I will come and visit Nandhu alone, no one other than that." She said and got up from her seat. She walked to the door and held it open, indicating to him to leave her office.
Mahadevan walked to the door and halted.
"I have a final question for you." He said, and she nodded for him to continue.
"Why did you write Harshan's name as Harshan Dev and not as Harshan Mahadev?" He asked her, making her frown.
"Dude, I just said that I don't have a family so if there is a guy, who kind of resembles me and shares my surname, it means he is my family." She stated in an obvious tone.
"Right, so let's nullify this question. Then I still get the last question right?" Mahadevan said, making her huff.
"Go ahead." She said, rolling her eyes
"Will you ever come back home and visit my room to have a chat with me?" He asked, with longing evident in his voice.
A part of her wanted to tell him that she would do that, but her ego didn't wanna agree so she just put on an emotionless face.
"Why should I come and visit you? Who are you to me? You were the one who disowned me, I never said anything about disowning. In Fact, I came and visited you every month, but you still decided to insult and hurt me. Everytime, I let it go, thinking that you were still my father and nothing could change the fact but the moment you decided that you no longer wish to be known as my father, I understood that there was nothing left between us and holding back my emotions was just gonna be wrong for me. I hope you understand what I said, please do not expect me to contact you, nor do I wish to attend your calls. Don't waste your time to try calling me because it only disturbs me during my surgery hours, not just me but the whole staff due the constant ringing. Now please leave." She said calmly, and gestured to him to leave her office.
Mahadevan just nodded at her and left the office. He turned to look at her one last time but only to find the door already shut. He sighed and slowly the tears he held back flowed down his cheeks. It was almost midnight, hence there was no one to witness this except Alok, who was confused.
Mahadevan kept his palm on the opaque glass door and slowly placed his forehead too. He sobbed and then left the hospital, his eyes looked out of focus, while his eyes were constantly watering.
"May I come in." Alok's voice was heard from the outside, while Aadhyaa told him to come in.
"Yes Alok?" She said, while working on her laptop, typing something furiously. "You didn't leave yet? It is midnight man."
"I was wondering, You are older than me, aren't you?" He asked, totally out of topic.
"Well spotted, bravo." She said in a mocking tone, while chuckling softly.
"Oh yea, it is quite obvious. I am a 5th year med student while you are a postgraduate with 5 years professional experience. Kindly ignore my stupid question." He said, making her laugh a bit.
"You got it." She said, still not looking at him but working on her laptop.
