You know, I've always been a bit of an odd case—hooked on going against the grain. They say "red," I shout "blue." They climb the mountain, I slide down. On a board, of course. Can't miss out on those sweet style points.
My dad says I was the first baby he'd ever seen plop out feet first. He laughs about it all the time, but I constantly wonder whether he was actually joking or not. Physically, I don't think an infant could do that.
But it would explain everything:
why I hunger for the road not taken;
why I practically shun normalcy;
why I've always felt so backwards.

In the crowd's center, the little dragon scrunched up her face.
"Wanna say that again?"
The tiny mermaid smirked.
"You heard me," she spat. "All you ever wanna do is race. It's weird, Selen! You're weird! This is why nobody wants to play with you!"
The dragon bit her quivering lip.
From the sideline, the delicate rose spoke up. "Leave her alone, Finana!"
The mermaid shrugged. "What? It's not my fault your friend's a freak! Did you know that, Selen? You're just a freak and a loser!"
All around them, the others commenced their chant.
"Loser! Loser! Loser!"
The devilish one laughed.
The baby dragon tightened her eyes, her tears begging to spill.
"What?" the wicked one mocked. "Gonna cry? Is wittle Sewen gonna—"
Feral, the tiny beast lunged into her prey, pinning her to the ground as she pummeled the mermaid with her tiny fists.
"Screw you, Finana!" she screeched. "Screw you! Screw you! Screw you!"

A tense atmosphere, one which made the little dragon terrified to utter a single syllable.
In the chilling office, she sat, her wounds covered with patches and bandages.
Beside her, an older version of herself soaked in the silence, her beastly eyes cold and stern.
"I'll be frank," the principal said, his hands set on his desk. "This is one of the worst things your daughter could've done. Here at AnyShade, we have zero tolerance for violence."
"But she started it!" the baby dragon cried.
The elder dragon delivered her murderous gaze, and the child instantly fell silent.
"Regardless of who is at fault," the principal continued, "we keep our hands to ourselves. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior whatsoever. As far as I can see, the only appropriate punishment is suspension."
The elder dragon lowered her head. "I understand, and I apologize immensely for the disgraceful actions my daughter has indulged herself in. Rest assured; her father and I will have her acting as she should when she returns."
She gripped the child's head to shove it down.
The tiny dragon winced but whispered with shame, "I'm sorry."
