Settled in the darkness of his den, the man struggled against his overwhelming anguish.
"Sensei?" the Assistant beside him asked. "Are you all right?"
"I knew something like this was bound to happen," the man said. "Over these last few centuries, those girls have been carrying endless affliction, whether they realized it or not, and it was only a matter of time before those dark feelings manifested into something truly grotesque. From the beginning, they were destined for discord."
The Caretaker tightened his lips, his eyes glassy.
"Even so, it hurts all the same—watching those bonds you helped nourish vanish without remorse."
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Across the forest floor, explosions of fierce flames bellowed, charring the grass and eradicating the palm trees.
The projectiles: cardinals of pure fire, born from the phoenix's immediate vicinity as they swooped down like first-class hunters.
Kiara, herself, merely floated in the air with folded arms. Austerity hissed amidst her visage, her focus on the battleground meticulous.
No signs of a troublesome shark,
save her voice, which spiraled throughout the island.
"Neptune Art: Reckless Mob!"
At once, sharks of solid water glided out of the greenery, their teeth sharp and their demeanors feral. Dauntlessly, they smashed into the descending birds, triggering pockets of heat and steam to violently burst.
Those who survived the assault darted straight for the Empress.
Audience, denied.
Poised, the phoenix hardened her glare, and as if the very air fell to her command, the molecules around her boiled, amplifying her heat beyond what lay in the sun's dreams.
The moment the aquatic beasts breached her space, they popped and splattered.
More to come.
From straight ahead zoomed the sublime trident, its haste overcoming sound itself as it ripped through the wind to pierce Kiara's skull.
Again, she rejected the attempt, swinging her arm with ease to bash away the weapon.
"Your confidence is misplaced," the phoenix said, unimpressed. "Don't forget: In all the times we sparred, you never once beat me."
"That's because I wasn't trying!"
A rocket, the valiant shark boosted high into the air, her trident sailing back to her grasp. She then began to skate towards her sister, propelled by the gushes of water ejecting from the soles of her feet.
Briskly did Gura close the distance, urging Kiara to stretch out her arm and call forth her own tool: a one-handed orange sword whose blade glowed verdant.
Sparks flew like chaotic fireflies as the two forces met, the impact itself rivaling a duo of planets colliding.
The phoenix scowled,
while the shark planned the next move.
Hungering for the momentum, Gura bounced haphazardly around her sister, swinging her trident each charge as she used her pockets of water for support.
