January 6th, 9 AM
It had been a little over two weeks since the explosion and the chaos had somewhat died down. The detectives had hit a dead end and at this point, it was assumed that Ace had been involved with the explosion. His father had been digging everywhere, trying to find a lead, but had no luck. It was officially the countdown to graduation and trying to put everything behind me, I was sending out as many applications as I could. My dream school was the University of Washington but I wanted to give myself every chance I could to get into a good school. I wanted to Major in English and Minor in History as those were my favorite subjects.
Ruby and I hadn't spoken since the explosion partially because we didn't want to seem suspicious but also because I still don't trust him. It takes everything in me not to reach out to him but I know it is for the best. A message came through my phone, digging out of my bag, I checked who it was. Speak of the devil,
"Hey, are you free tonight? I would like to start over and take you to dinner if you would let me?" This was the first message I got from Ruby since everything went down.
"I think we could make that work, what time should I be ready?"
"6! Can't wait to see you!"
I smiled and opened my book to read.
A knock on the door broke me from the fictional world of my story.
"Yes?"
"Parker, I just got a call, they want to interrogate you about the explosion and disappearance of Ace. They want us to come immediately, get dressed." My mom closed the door and I quickly got ready to go. I wasn't nervous but I was curious about what they had to ask me.
"Mrs. Romano, Parker, please take a seat so we can get started." My mom and I sat down, I was shocked she came with me, I fully expected my father to be here, "let us start with the most obvious questions," the detective was a large man, he obviously had worked here for a while as he was far too comfortable sitting in that chair. He had a smug look on his face as if he already knew the answers to the questions he was going to ask. Sucks for him I already knew that was a classic interrogation tactic to get the suspect to spill the beans. "Where were you the night of the explosion?"
"I was with Ruby."
"Who is Ruby?"
"Rueben Riccaro, we went on a walk,"
"I see, did you go anywhere specific during this walk?"
"Well, we went out to our cabin,"
"Who's cabin?"
"My family's." The detective sat up and opened the folder on the table and pulled out two pictures. One of Ruby and I going into the clothing bank naked and coming out with clothes and extra clothes in our hands.
"Explain these."
"We challenged each other to go skinny dipping, we thought we grabbed the keys when we grabbed the blankets but we didn't. We locked the cabin so when we came back there was no way to get in."
"So you walked to the clothing bank?"
"The cabin isn't far, we had to walk to my house anyways and since it was freezing in just blankets we thought to grab clothes."
"Who were the extra clothes for?"
"Us? It is winter."
"The camera shows you guys getting into a vehicle, who picked you up?"
I pulled out my phone and showed him the message I sent Brooks that night. "Octavia and Brooks were secretly seeing each other at the time, I messaged them to see if we could catch a ride to my house."
