"Whatever you say, Willa."
Will went cross-eyed, watching the pink bubble grow from her lips before erupting with an audible pop. She sighed loudly and leaned on the counter, flipping through a celebrity gossip magazine while wondering when this torture would end.
There was absolutely no one in the store besides Erik, who was stocking cake mixes somewhere. Boring elevator-esque music played softly in the background, causing Will's eyes to droop even more than before.
Jess tapped her baby blue nails on the counter from across from Will, and after a moment she seemed to perk up, remembering something. "I heard Alex is pregnant."
Will's head popped up, intrigued. "What? No way, who told you?"
"Mike."
"Oh. It's not true then."
"Yeah," Jess conceded, making a high-pitched click with her tongue.
Another minute passed in their mind-numbingly boring silence before Will decided to break it. "You still valedictorian?"
"Your sister pulled ahead for a couple of days, but I'm first again."
"Cool. You deserve it more than her."
Will sighed, putting her head back down on the counter. She closed her eyes, just for a moment, her mind wandering to her game tomorrow. She was so focused that she didn't even realize that the sounds of the store were fading away.
In what seemed like the next minute she heard someone calling her name, and thinking that it was her boss, Will woke up with a start, large strands of hair falling out of her braid and some bubblegum stuck in her back left tooth.
She realized several things in the span of a millisecond, the first being that Jared was at Jessica's register, buying an unhealthy amount of ice cream. The second was that Paul was staring down at her with a smirk, his hands thrust into his sweatshirt pocket. The third was that the magazine was still open to the Kardashians scandal, which Will scrambled to close.
"So, this is how the famous Will Swan spends her free time... charming," Paul drew out, his voice deeper than Will remembered it to be. "You seem to be a great employee."
"Atleast I have a job, Lahote."
"Aaaah, so you know my last name? I heard that you were asking around about me," he said, crossing his arms over his chest.
Without realizing it Will did so as well. "You're mistaken, I would never take time out of my busy day to do things as useless as that. Unlike some people, I have hobbies besides walking through forests shirtless hoping to scare poor unsuspecting girls."
"Thats an oddly specific situation, and a poor excuse." He smirked. "Admit it, Swan, you're curious about me."
"I would never lower my standards so abysmally." She said, rolling her eyes.
