Y/N stood at the top of the grand staircase, her heart thudding painfully as she gazed out over her family's estate. The weight of the evening settled heavy on her shoulders as she awaited the arrival of Kim Namjoon—the man her parents had chosen for her, the man she was expected to marry for the sake of their companies.

She wasn't ready for this, not for the life they had planned for her, and certainly not to give her heart to someone she barely knew. Especially when that heart already belonged to someone else.

The doors opened with a grand flourish, and Y/N's eyes met Namjoon's. He smiled politely, his calm confidence evident in every step. He was everything anyone could ask for—charming, intelligent, successful—but all Y/N could feel was the tightening grip of fear around her chest. She forced a smile in return, exchanging pleasantries, while her mind drifted far away to someone else.

Hoseok.

Her heart fluttered at the thought of him—her best friend, the one constant in her life, the man who made her laugh and feel alive. The one she had always been too afraid to confess her feelings to, hiding them behind the walls of friendship. She'd always convinced herself that he didn't feel the same. But now, faced with the reality of losing him forever, the truth she had buried for so long burned its way to the surface.

Namjoon spoke of their marriage as if it were a done deal, painting a bright picture of their future together. Y/N nodded along, feeling more suffocated with each word. When he finally left, she retreated to her room, her chest aching as the full weight of her situation crashed over her.

How could she marry Namjoon when her heart screamed for Hoseok? How could she walk down an aisle toward someone who wasn't the one she loved?

That evening, she sent a message to Hoseok, asking him to meet her at their favorite café. It was the only place where she felt safe, where they could sit and talk as if the world outside didn't exist. As she sat waiting for him, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of her napkin, her mind whirled with what she would say.

When Hoseok finally arrived, his warm smile calmed her racing thoughts, if only for a moment. But as he sat down and looked at her, concern filled his eyes.

"Y/N? What's going on?" he asked gently, sensing the turmoil she was trying so hard to contain.

Taking a deep breath, Y/N felt her heart begin to crack open. This was it. No more hiding, no more pretending.

"I need to tell you something," she began, her voice barely above a whisper. "My parents... they've arranged for me to marry Namjoon. It's all set for the merger of our companies."

Hoseok blinked, his face going pale. "What?"

She couldn't stop the tremble in her hands as she looked into his eyes, trying to find the courage to say what she had kept hidden for so long. "Hoseok, I—" She paused, swallowing the lump in her throat. "I don't love him. I can't marry him, not when... not when I'm in love with you."

Hoseok's breath hitched. He stared at her in disbelief, his eyes searching hers for any sign that this was a dream. "Y/N... what are you saying?"

Y/N felt the tears pooling in her eyes as she poured out the truth she had kept locked away for years. "I've loved you for as long as I can remember, Hoseok. You've always been the one. But I was so scared to say anything, to ruin what we had. I thought maybe it was just me, that maybe you'd never feel the same. But now... with this arranged marriage hanging over me... I can't keep it to myself anymore."

For a moment, Hoseok didn't speak. His silence stretched between them, and Y/N felt her heart shatter a little more with each passing second. Maybe she had made a mistake. Maybe this would ruin everything between them. She had been ready to break her own heart to protect their friendship, but now, she had laid everything bare.

And then, Hoseok reached for her hand. His touch was warm, his fingers gentle as they wrapped around hers, anchoring her to the moment. When she looked up, his eyes were filled with something deep and unmistakable—something she had always wished to see there.

"I've loved you too," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "For so long, Y/N. But I never thought... I never thought you would feel the same. I didn't want to risk losing you."

Her breath caught in her throat as his words sank in. It felt impossible—after all this time, all these unspoken feelings—they were here, laid bare between them.

"Hoseok..." She leaned closer, her heart racing, hope blooming inside her for the first time in so long. "What do we do?"

He smiled softly, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. "We figure it out together. We don't have to let them decide our lives for us. Not if we love each other."

Y/N's tears spilled over, but this time, they weren't just from sorrow—they were from the overwhelming relief of finally knowing that her love wasn't unrequited. "I don't want to lose you," she whispered, her voice trembling.

"You won't," Hoseok promised, his voice steady. "We'll find a way. I love you, and I'm not going to let you go."

In that moment, Y/N felt a spark of hope igniting deep within her. The future was uncertain, but there was one thing she knew for sure—she wasn't alone anymore. They would face whatever came together, hand in hand, with their hearts finally open to the love they had always shared.
