The day of the wedding arrived in a flurry of white roses, glimmering chandeliers, and soft music playing in the background. Y/N sat in the bridal suite, staring at her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was perfectly styled, her makeup flawless, and the white lace dress she wore clung to her like a second skin. She looked every bit the picture-perfect bride—except for the hollow feeling in her chest.
Rose stood behind her, adjusting the veil one last time. "You look beautiful, Y/N," she whispered, a smile tugging at her lips.
"Thanks," Y/N replied, but her voice lacked the enthusiasm of a woman about to marry the love of her life. This wasn't a wedding of love; it was a wedding of convenience, one designed to keep up appearances for their families.
Her mind wandered to Hoseok. He was somewhere in the audience, watching, waiting. She wished more than anything that she could run to him, that it was his ring she'd be slipping on her finger today. But that wasn't the life she could live—not out in the open, at least.
Namjoon stood outside, ready for the ceremony to begin. His hands were clenched into fists as he paced nervously. This wasn't how he'd imagined his wedding day either. His thoughts were clouded with Seokjin's face, the man he truly loved, who sat somewhere among the guests, forced to watch him marry someone else.
The music swelled, signaling that it was time. Y/N took a deep breath, steeling herself for the charade she was about to play. She walked down the aisle, feeling like she was floating through a dream—or maybe a nightmare. Her eyes flitted toward Hoseok, who stood among the guests, his eyes dark with emotion. He offered her a small, sad smile, but she could see the heartbreak etched into his features.
Seokjin sat beside Hoseok, his jaw clenched so tight it was a wonder he hadn't cracked a tooth. Watching Namjoon stand at the altar, waiting for Y/N, was torture. He loved Namjoon with everything he had, and now he had to sit there, pretending that everything was fine, while the man he loved married someone else.
As Y/N reached the altar, Namjoon took her hand, offering her a reassuring squeeze. They both knew what they were doing was necessary, but that didn't make it any easier.
The officiant began the ceremony, his voice a distant hum as Y/N and Namjoon stood before him. Vows were exchanged, rings slipped onto fingers, and before she knew it, Y/N heard the words that sealed their fate: "You may now kiss the bride."
Namjoon leaned in, pressing a brief, chaste kiss to her lips. It was barely more than a formality, a public display meant to solidify the illusion. But to the world, they looked like the perfect couple, embarking on a lifelong journey together.
As they walked back down the aisle as husband and wife, Y/N glanced over her shoulder at Hoseok. His eyes followed her every step, filled with longing and frustration. Seokjin wasn't much better—his face was pale, his hands trembling slightly as he clapped along with the rest of the guests.
