The boutique was bustling with activity, wedding dresses displayed in every corner, shimmering under the soft lighting. Y/N stood at the entrance, feeling the weight of the moment press down on her. This was supposed to be a happy occasion—the kind of day most women dream about. Yet here she was, numb inside, pretending to go along with a life that wasn't her own.
Rose, her childhood friend, bounded ahead, already eager to look through the gowns. "Come on, Y/N! This is the fun part! Try to enjoy it a little," she teased, her excitement filling the air.
Hoseok stood quietly beside Y/N, his hands stuffed in his pockets as he scanned the room. His expression was calm, but Y/N could see the tension in his shoulders. He was trying his best to be supportive, even though she knew how much it hurt him to be here.
They hadn't spoken about their confession since that night at the café. The whirlwind of wedding preparations had come too fast, forcing them both into roles they hadn't yet had time to process. But Hoseok hadn't left her side, even as her world seemed to be spiraling out of her control.
"Come on," Y/N said softly, touching his arm as she led him deeper into the boutique. "I need you here with me."
He gave her a small smile, but she could see the sadness in his eyes. "I'm not going anywhere," he whispered, his voice tight with emotion.
Rose flitted around, holding up dress after dress. "What about this one? Oh, and this one too! You've got to try them all on!"
Y/N forced a smile and nodded, letting Rose's enthusiasm carry her along. She slipped into the dressing room, trying on gown after gown. Each time she looked in the mirror, she felt a hollow emptiness where excitement should have been.
When she stepped out in the final dress—a soft, flowing lace gown with delicate details—Rose gasped. "Y/N, you look stunning. This is the one."
Y/N looked in the mirror, her reflection staring back at her like a stranger. She could hear Rose's words, see the beauty in the dress, but all she felt was a deep, aching emptiness.
And then she turned to Hoseok.
He was sitting quietly, his eyes focused on her. His jaw was clenched, and his hands were tightly balled into fists. As their eyes met, she saw the struggle written all over his face. It was then that she noticed the glisten of unshed tears in his eyes.
"Hoseok?" she asked, stepping toward him, concern flooding her voice.
He blinked rapidly and looked away, his voice rough when he spoke. "I'm fine, Y/N. You look beautiful. Really." But he couldn't hide the way his voice cracked.
Y/N's heart twisted painfully. She couldn't stand to see him like this, not when they both knew what this wedding meant. She knelt beside him, taking his hand in hers. "Talk to me."
Hoseok swallowed hard, shaking his head. "This isn't how it's supposed to be," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "You're standing there in that dress, and all I can think about is that it should be me. Not Namjoon."
Y/N felt her own tears welling up. She squeezed his hand, her heart breaking for both of them. "I know," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I know, Hoseok."
But before she could say anything else, Rose appeared, oblivious to the tension. "Y/N, we need to get this dress fitted! Come on!"
Y/N forced herself to stand, letting go of Hoseok's hand as she followed Rose toward the seamstress. Hoseok's pain stayed with her, heavy and inescapable, even as she smiled and went through the motions of preparing for a wedding she didn't want.

Later that evening, Y/N found herself seated across from Namjoon at a candlelit table in an upscale restaurant. He looked dashing, his sharp suit perfectly tailored, his smile as confident as ever. Their first official date. This was supposed to be the start of something, a new chapter.
Namjoon had been nothing but kind to her since their engagement had been arranged. He was smart, respectful, and considerate. Everything her parents could want in a son-in-law. But the connection she longed for wasn't there.
As they ate, Namjoon talked about his plans for their future—travels, their home, the merging of their companies. His vision was bright and clear, but Y/N's thoughts drifted back to Hoseok, to the way his voice had trembled at the boutique, to the way his heart had been breaking right in front of her.
"Are you okay?" Namjoon asked suddenly, his sharp eyes studying her closely. "You've been quiet."
Y/N blinked, trying to pull herself out of the haze. She forced a smile. "I'm fine. Just a little tired."
Namjoon nodded, but his expression remained thoughtful. "I understand. This whole arrangement can't be easy on you."
Y/N's heart clenched at his words. For a moment, she considered telling him the truth—that her heart wasn't in this, that it belonged to someone else. But the weight of expectation, of duty, crushed the words before they could form.
She remained silent, nodding along as the rest of the evening passed in a blur.

That night, after the date, Y/N returned home feeling more conflicted than ever. Her heart was heavy, her mind buzzing with everything that had happened. She hadn't spoken to Hoseok since they left the boutique, but she knew she needed to see him.
She found him in his usual spot, sitting on the swing in the garden, staring out at the stars. The air was cool, and the silence between them stretched as she approached.
"Hoseok," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
He turned to look at her, his eyes still filled with the same raw emotion from earlier. "Y/N..."
Without thinking, she moved to sit beside him, the space between them disappearing as their shoulders touched. For a moment, neither of them spoke.
"I don't know how I'm supposed to do this," she admitted, her voice cracking under the weight of her feelings. "I don't know how I'm supposed to marry him when all I can think about is you."
Hoseok took a deep breath, his eyes glistening with unshed tears as he looked at her. "I don't know either," he whispered. "But I know that I can't lose you. Not like this."
Y/N's heart shattered, her tears falling freely now. "I don't want to lose you either."
They sat there in the quiet of the night, their emotions too heavy to speak of, their love too strong to be denied. In that moment, with the stars shining above them and the world fading away, they clung to each other, unsure of what the future held, but knowing that they couldn't bear to let go.
