Y/N paced outside her parents' drawing room, her hands trembling as she struggled to steady her breath. The weight of the decision she was about to make pressed heavily on her chest, suffocating her. She had always been a dutiful daughter, always done what was expected, but not this. She couldn't—*wouldn't*—marry Namjoon. Not when her heart screamed for someone else.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the door. Her parents were seated in their usual spots: her father, stoic as ever, reading his newspaper; her mother, meticulously sipping her tea, her gaze lifting at Y/N's entrance.
"Mom, Dad, I need to talk to you," Y/N said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Her father raised an eyebrow, his eyes scanning her with mild curiosity. "What is it, Y/N? You look troubled."
Y/N swallowed, her heart pounding in her ears. "I... I want to call off the wedding."
Her mother's teacup clattered against its saucer, her eyes narrowing in shock. "What?" she hissed, her tone sharp and unforgiving. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"I can't marry Namjoon," Y/N said, her voice shaking but firm. "I don't love him."
Her father's expression darkened, the crease between his brows deepening. "This isn't about love, Y/N. We've discussed this. You know how important this union is for our family's future. This wedding isn't just about you."
Y/N felt the familiar frustration and helplessness rising in her chest, her hands balling into fists. "But what about my future? My happiness? Doesn't that matter at all?"
Her mother set her cup down carefully, her eyes cold and calculating. "You're being selfish. This is bigger than your fleeting emotions. Namjoon is a good man, and this marriage will benefit both of our families."
Y/N shook her head, tears stinging her eyes. "It's not about him being a good man. It's about me not being in love with him! I can't marry someone when my heart belongs to someone else. I love Hoseok."
At the mention of his name, her father's lips thinned in disapproval. "Hoseok? You mean that boy from that... humble family?" His tone was full of disdain. "He cannot give you the life Namjoon can. He cannot give you the security, the future, or the status you deserve."
"I don't care about any of that!" Y/N's voice cracked with desperation. "All I care about is being with someone I love, someone who loves me back."
Her mother stood abruptly, her eyes blazing with a mix of fury and disbelief. "You are not thinking clearly, Y/N. You're throwing away everything we've built for you over some foolish infatuation."
Y/N felt her heart breaking with every word they spoke. She was trapped. They would never understand. Never let her choose the one person who truly saw her, the one person who loved her for who she was.
Her father's voice was final, unyielding. "The wedding will go ahead as planned, Y/N. You will do your duty to this family."
Tears spilled down her cheeks, her chest heaving with the effort of holding back sobs. "How can you ask me to live a life I don't want?"
