Iya's POV

Last night with Pietro was magical.  The mate bond is so much stronger than ever.  I could not resist my mate every time he wants me.  It was like both of us were wanting to catch up on lost years.

"Iya, my love,"  Pietro called.

"Hmmm?"

"I want to take you and Sonia somewhere.  I believe it is time you visited some people in your past,"  he said with a straight face.  It can't be a happy reunion or else his mood would not be like this.  I felt uneasy.

"I trust you.  Sonia and I will prepare."  I responded as he dropped a kiss on my head.

Sonia and I were surprised that we did not take a car.  Pietro meant for us to walk to our destination.  After a fifteen minute walk which we hardly noticed because of the beautiful scenery of the royal pack, we arrived at a beautiful garden bounded by tall bush fence and a quaint gate.

When a guard who was with our entourage opened the gate, my breath got caught.  It was a cemetery!  Moon goddess, who did I lose again?  I was edgy and Pietro took my hand as if sensing my nervousness.

"Who?"  I looked at Pietro with almost teary eyes.  Sonia looked up and waited also for the response from her Da.

"Come.  It will be alright,"  was all he said.

"The gray headstones to your right are the fallen warriors of the Great War.  Werewolves, vampires, witches, and faes lie together in rest."  Pietro informed us.

"That many?  May they rest in peace."  I prayed.

"There were more but their loved ones took their bodies to be buried in their own kingdom.  There could be more if you, my Iya, did not protect them.  During the war,  you and I with Kieran and Diana, lead the warriors almost to victory.  Without your powers and brilliance, there could have been more casualties.  You are a war hero, my Luna Queen."  Pietro added though his words hardly consoled the heavy feeling I have by looking at the grave.

He lead us farther into the garden.  A path lead to lines of white headstones this time.

"Here lies, the high rank werewolves, relatives, and...,"  Pietro stalled. "Family."

Sonia and I got closer to read the names.

"Ettore, Gamma of Woodlands Pack, brave and loving husband and father.  Stella, beloved wife and mother."  I turned to Pietro.  " Who are they, Pietro?"

"Iya, they were your adoptive parents.  They raised you since you were found as a babe.  They died valiantly.  We would not have discovered the imposter  they sent back if not for them.  They loved you dearly.  I am sorry I could not protect them as I could not rescue you."  Pietro said sadly.  I embraced him.

"You did your best.  Some things were meant to happen as they did.  Thank you for giving them a beautiful resting place."

I kept saying my parents' names in my mind trying so hard to remember them.  "I do not remember them but truly my heart hurts seeing them here."  I wanted to cry out of frustration.  Why can't I remember?

"Ettore and Stella, forgive me for seeing you just now.  I may not remember you but I want to thank you for the care, love, and sacrifice you showed to me.  I will honor your death by being a good luna and mother to your grandchild.  This is Sonia.  You would have loved her, I am sure of this." I knelt on the ground and touched their headstone, unaware my tears started to flow.

"Mama, do not be sad."  Sonia comforted.

I smiled and hugged her.  "I love you, scumpa.  My princess."

My head was splitting on the way back home.  I get exasperated about remembering the past.  A big part of me was lost with it.  I still feel guilty for not being able to recall the love Pietro and I had before the war.

"Iya, stop it.  The harder you pressure yourself in remembering, the more heartbreaking it becomes for you.  We have started to move forward.  I did not bring you there for this.  I just owe it to you to inform you about your parents."  Pietro maintained.

"I want to be alone.  Please.  I will be fine, promise.  I just want to think."  I pleaded.

Pietro was adamant but saw the need in my eyes.  He nodded and took Sonia with him.

It was ten minutes or so when Pietro left me on my own.  I was deep in thoughts when growls and crashing were heard on the courtyard.

I felt anxious.  The sound of fighting is so familiar it is stirring emotions inside me that I do not want to entertain.

Kara came rushing meeting me as I too dashed to the commotion.

"My queen, there is a rogue attack!  The king wants you safe in your bedroom.  Quick!"  She shouted.

"No!  I will fight!  Bring me to Pietro!"  I insisted.  I looked sternly in her eyes making her realize I will not be dissuaded.

She nodded.  "We will fight with them, then."  Kara said then we rushed to the scene.

When we arrived at the courtyard, our hearts fell.  Most of our warriors were down.  General Agog could hardly fight.  And Pietro...Pietro is fighting off three unusually strong rogue werewolves.  It was as if the devil himself has empowered these three rogues.  This has to be a witch's doing!  Not again!  I will not stand for this!

In that very moment all my heart, mind, and soul wanted was to protect Pietro.  Suddenly, an orange glow starts to show on my skin.  It intensified into a flame.  Just like instinct, I knew how to make use of the flame.

I ran towards the enemies and tried to burn the regular rogues with my touch.  One buffed rogue also got burnt badly and died.  Two to go!

"Iya, you can't be here!  I will not lose you again!  Go back inside!"  Pietro was livid.

"I will not leave you!  You have to trust me, too,"  was all I could reply.

Something clicked in Pietro.  "Together, we are unmatched!  Iya, come closer to me!"  Pietro cried.

Pietro and I met and quickly embraced.  He shifted into his wolf as if with renewed strength.  He killed ten more regular rogues.  The remaining two buffed rogues jumped me.  They missed me because my wings came out and was able to fly away.

They focused their viciousness towards Pietro to my alarm!  One  buffed rogue was about to ambush Pietro at his back.  No!  Not my Pietro!

I blocked the rogue's attack on Pietro by putting myself in harm's way.  The rogue bit my neck hard and would not let go.

Pietro's wolf growled and every wolf froze.  His wolf attacked the rogue and killed it.  The last buffed rogue was now no match for the enraged Alpha King.  He is in full protective mode.  Everyone in his path will be annihilated.

The battle was won.  Pietro shifted back and ran to me.  I was pressing on my neck to stop the heavy bleeding.

"Iya!  No!  Help us!"  Pietro panicked.

I placed my other palm on his chest to calm him.  He stopped shouting but his breathing is still ragged.

I wanted to tell him I will be fine.  I will heal.  I will not leave him and Sonia.  I love him.  And most of all I wanted to tell him that I remember it all now.  But I could not speak yet.

Soon, my love, soon....
