Sophia's POV:
When we came back home, Kai was standing on the porch, waiting for us. My heart pounded with the fear of what he'd do if he found out I didn't change into something more covering before I'd left.
As soon as I stepped out of the car, I was met by cold silver eyes and a scowl.
"You disobeyed my direct orders." He said coolly.
I suddenly became stiff as I stared at him. What was he going to do to me? Would he hurt me? Throw me in a dungeon?
"I-I'm sorry..." I said, my voice cracking with fear, and the tears that threatened to fall.
Kai's eyes softened just barely before hardening again.
"I'll let it slide this time. Next time, you will follow my orders. That is an order."
I nodded and clutched the hem of my skirt.
Marina came to me after Kai went inside and gently patted my shoulder. "It's okay. I know Alpha Kai can be scary a lot of times, but he has a soft spot for you, Sophia. Ever since the day he saved you." she said.
I didn't believe a word. There's no way he could ever have a soft spot for me, the girl that he was forced to be mated to.
Yet, somehow, my heart was telling me that there was a possibility.
I went inside quickly and went straight up to my room, without greeting anybody downstairs.
I smiled as I tried on my new dress and heels. They fit perfectly.
I looked at myself in the mirror and made sure the dress was smoothed out nicely.
I absolutely loved it and I was excited to wear it despite the whole "mating ceremony" thing.
Suddenly, a cold gust of wind flew in from behind and I stumbled forward from the impact.
"Huh?..." I whipped around, looking behind me. Nothing. There was no window above my bed, or on any of the walls that my back was facing, so there's no way that it could've come from there.
I blinked hard with my eyes and shook it off. I then changed into something more comfy from the closet and went downstairs for dinner with the pack.
However, I couldn't find any one there except the Marina and a few other girls chatting in the living room.
"Where is everyone? Cory? Kai? I can't find anybody." I asked her after I came into the living room.
Marina smiled and said, "Cory is Kai's Beta. Kai went hunting with the rest of the team."
Oh.
"I see." I told her, "Can I hang out with you guys?"
Marina nodded and held my hands, pulling me down beside her. There were 2 other girls sitting across from her. One with beautiful silver hair, and the other with brown hair.
"Sophia, these are LJ and Kina." Marina said, pointing to the one with silver hair, LJ, and the one with brown hair, Kina. Both of them smiled at me and I smiled back.
"LJ, Kina, this is Sophia, our Luna." Marina said, putting an arm around my shoulder.
"Hi, girls." I lightly waved. Kina looked at me through the hood of her hoodie. One of her eyes was grey, with no light at all, and the other was a vivid golden-yellow.
"Do you mind me asking about your eye?" I asked her softly. Kina smiled and shook her head.
"I'd be glad to tell you. Not many people like to listen to that story. Only these two." she said, pointing to LJ and Marina. I chuckled and listened as Kina told me what happened.
"When I was 4, my sister and I were playing in the forest, and then suddenly, there was this ugly looking brown wolf. Rabid. It was charging at us at like, I don't know, a thousand miles an hour or something. I pushed my sister out of the way, and in an attempt to do so, I became the target." She said, "I came back home alive, and so did my sister, but I lost the vision from my left eye that day. But, I protected my sister, and that was what mattered. I would gladly lose my eyes than lose her."
I smiled. "You're an amazing sister, Kina. Although, I am sorry about your eye."
Kina nodded, "Thanks. I don't worry about it too much, though. It is what it is."
I nodded and continued chatting with the girls for a while until the hunters barged in.
Cory was in his wolf form, breathing heavy and hackles raised.
And with him was Kai, breathing laboured, injured and bleeding.
There was an arrow in his stomach.
