tw for mentions of mental health issues and being sectioned

as an anxious person, it took a lot for aimee to make friends. god, it took her years to get into a relationship with her ex because she assumed he was just being friendly towards her.

she was oblivious.

so, she didn't notice the way roy constantly found her at the side of the pitch, eyes trailing her body. the way colin glared at him every time he caught it. he knew their captain could probably kill him but that was his little sister. his very clueless little sister.

he'd protected aimee as much as he could and he hated himself a little that he couldn't protect her from her ex or her supposed best friend. the most he could do was be there for her when she needed him.

and glare at roy kent for looking at his sister the way he was because if he didn't, who would? he knew aimee, and if she knew roy kent was interested in her and she wasn't she wouldn't do anything. she'd pretend like she didn't know because that was aimee, never wanting someone else to feel put out because of her, even if they deserved it. even if she should be the one to feel comfortable and safe.

aimee hughes was probably one of the most awkward people colin knew and he completely blamed it on her being a hollywood star. he was sure being surrounded by people who thought they were larger than life stunted her social ability or something. she rambled and tripped over her own words when it was only two people talking. when there was no buffer, she was a mess. colin had seen it first-hand, just not with himself. they'd known each other too long.

"so, aimee, let's get into the real stuff," ted began, eyes following the warm up in front of them. "why'd you move from sunny la to move to england? rumour has it you turned down a marvel role to do this?"

she smiled sadly, "bad breakup."

"relationship?"

"friendship," she admitted. the truth was she wasn't as bothered about losing her boyfriend anymore as she was about her friend betraying her the way she did. "and i didn't turn down a marvel role to be here. it was dc and it was for some sequel."

"oh my god!" he exclaimed. "i was joking about the superhero thing, but you really turned down—"

she nodded, "yep. besides, my brother's here, it's not so bad. i love him. don't tell him i said that, i'll deny it." she smiled, eyes following colin as someone else's eyes followed her. "i missed it here. i've never been back for more than a month at a time. now i get at least a year."

ted nodded, mulling over her words. her accent still confused him but he said nothing on it, deciding he'd questioned her enough. he was sure he'd seen some interview where she mentioned anglicising her accent for her audience. he didn't even comment on her use of at least. he had had a feeling since meeting her that this break she spoke about may have been a longer thing. she just seemed... exhausted in his eyes.
