Sneaking back into Raintree was easier than I thought it was going to be as I made it back to my trailer without anyone noticing me..., besides one person..., Matt.
Opening the front door I was immediately greeted by an angry Matt, "Where the hell have you been?"
He grabbed my hand quickly and pulled me inside, "Are you okay? Where's Breakaway?"
I could tell that Matt was starting to spiral into a deep, dark hole of worry so I gave him a hug, "Matt, calm down. I'm okay, Breakaway is okay."
Pulling away I could tell that he was much more at ease now, "What happened?" I motioned over to the couch as we both too a seat next to each other, "After escaping with Breakaway I knew that it wouldn't be safe to come back home or be seen out in public so me and Breakaway hid in the mountains for the night."
"The next morning I knew that the police would be looking for me by now so I was trying to come up with a if the police found me, that I found her in the mountains as you and me were searching for you but we got split up." I continued to explain the plan me and Junior made, "But when I was trying to find my way back here I ran into Junior."
"Junior?" Matt's eyebrows furrowed together, "He said that he knew it was me who took Breakaway from the auction last night. And to be honest, I thought when he found me, I thought that he was going to turn me in to the police."
"Clearly he didn't because you here right now," Matt stated, "Junior and I came up with a plan together; while I tried to find my way back here and use the excuse that I was with you looking for Breakaway, Junior took Breakaway and is trying to find the person who bided on her to see if he could become her new owner."
"That's the stupidest idea I ever heard!" Matt got up in a panic, "You do realize that the money Junior is going to use to pay off the bidder is with his dad's money? Meaning, It would belong to his dad, not him?"
"After Junior finalizes the deal he's going to make me sign a contract allowing me full ownership of Breakaway," I explain as he finally relaxes, "Has he reached out to you yet?"
"No," I said with worry, "That's the part I'm starting to worry about, it's almost been three-" I was cut off by the sound of my phone ringing in my back pocket, "Thank god, it's Junior."
I quickly answer the phone as Junior talks on the other line, "Mr. Billings took the deal, Breakaway is mine. I'm about five minutes out with the ownership paperwork."
"Oh my god, Junior! You did it!" Excitement washed over me as I smiled at Matt, "I'll see you when you get here."
Junior hung up and I jumped up from my seat, running as fast as I could when I heard the front gates open, "Come on, we have to hurry!"
Matt chased after me as I saw a pickup truck with a horse carrier being dragged along the back. Junior gets out of the car and I practically jump on him, giving him the tightest hug, "I can't believe you did it, Junior!"
He spun me around and I laughed until he put me back on the ground, he broke away from the hug to dig something out of his back pocket; the documents and a pen.
"She's all yours," I beamed up at Junior who gave me a happy smile back, "You don't have much time before my dad finds out, so hurry up and sign it before he kicks my ass."
"All three of us laughed as I took the pen and documents from him, quickly writing my full name and initials where they needed to be on the documents until I was done, "Oh my god, we did it!"
A familiar sound crept up on us as Jean and Pablo joined us, "You guys did what?"
Confusion lit up on their faces as Breakway was being led out of the carrier and back into her old stall by one of the carriers, "Is that Breakway? What did you guys do!"
"Apparently the guy who brought her thought it was too much of a hassle after losing the horse and decided to give it to Spencer." Matt explained while Pablo still didn't seem convinced, "Where do you guys find her?"
"Me and Matt have been looking for her all night but we came up with nothing, we actually just got back from looking for her and then we saw Junior was here waiting for us." I lied through my teeth the best I could, "Um, yeah. I decided to pick up Breakway to be the nice person that I am and drop her off."
"But I should actually be going now." Junior said sheepishly and me and Matt gave him a small smile and waved him goodbye as he jogged back over to his truck. All four of us watched him leave as Jean broke the silence, "Who's wants some dinner?"
