Matt came jogging up next to me as I was walking Breakaway to get her some fresh air, "Hey, can we talk?"

He seemed like he was in a rush but also wanted to have a deep conversation all at once, "Sure, what's up."

"I just want to say I'm not dating, Dani." He said while stuffing his hands into the jacket he was wearing, "We broke up the day you and Junior didn't show up at the Diner."

"Why did you do that?" I asked while the horse I was walking continued to lead me around more than the other way around, "Because it wasn't fair to her."

I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat as I knew what he was going to say next, "All I do is think about you."

"Matt, it doesn't matter what you feel. We can't do that." I tried to explain to him in the nicest way possible without hurting his feelings, "We've been here before, I don't feel the same way about you and last time I almost lost my job."

"Look, can we not talk about this?" I said while dismissing him, "I'm at work."

"That's what my mother said." Matt said as I looked around at the party at Davis's house that was happening around us, "And you should listen to her."

"I don't want to!" he said with offense in his voice, "Do you listen to what you're mother says?"

"Matt, my mother is in prison," I said blandly, "Listen, you're a good guy. I mean it, but I don't like you the way you like me. Promise me you'll drop it, okay?"

I walked away from Matt until he started to follow me again, "I can't promise that."

"Matt, you have to." I said while rubbing the horse's snout, "This isn't some kind of high school drama, it's my life."

"I stopped walking and turned to face Matt, "Will you please go? I have to stay here with the horses."

Finally taking my advice Matt walks away from me and I continue to walk over to one of the handlers as Junior starts walking over to me, "Still working?"

"I just finished. I'm heading home now." I said with a tired yawn, "I've gotta tell you something,"

"I'm really sorry about the other day at the meadows." Junior said but brushed it off, "Forget about it.

"Wait, there's more," He said while we walked side by side, "What I tried to do at the meadow, it was stupid. I should have waited till I knew you better."

"And even if Dani put me up to it, I want you to know that I really like you." Junior explained but my mind was still stuck on the part where he mentioned Dani, "Wait, Dani?"

"Yeah, she thinks that you're trying to steal Matt from her. Crazy, right?" Junior said as we walked all the way to the entrance gate together, "Well tell her that Matt is all her's. For some reason Matt has this imagine of us being together stuck in his head when I've already told him that we can't be together?"

"Can't be or don't want to be?" Junior said as he opened at the gate for me, "Both, at the festival when he kissed me he almost got me fired. Plus, I don't see him like that, at most, I see him like a brother to me."

"Then who do you see more than a brother?" Junior says playfully and I bump into his shoulder, "You don't stop, do you?"

"Never," He said as he started walking home with me, "Isn't your dad gonna notice that you're not at his party anymore?"

"Eh, I rather be with you than at a party with a bunch of people talking about something I have no idea about," Junior said with sarcasm and I laughed at him, "I can totally understand that."

"I remember back when me and my mom were living in our apartment before we got kicked out and she was trying to teach me about the grams of certain drugs she wanted me to help sort with her and I had no idea what I was doing." I said and Junior looked at me with a funny look, "Not recently, I was six."

"Oh, thank god." Junior said was a sarcastic relief and as I continued walking past Raintree's gates and towards my trailer, "What are you doing tomorrow?"

"Me and Pablo are going to start training breakaway at the starting gate and see how she does." I said while I reached for the door to open my trailer but Junior's hand pushed it back closed, "Meet me near the old Willow tree down the road at eleven, okay?"

"And why would I be doing that?" I said as Junior rolled his eyes at me, "Hey, I thought we were doing great on the whole trusting each other thing?"

Looking down at the ground and back up to Junior before I decided to respond, "Fine, whatever."

Junior removed his hand from my door, allowing me to open it and step inside, "I'll see you tomorrow at eleven."

Junior gave me that smirk I knew all too well as I shut the door behind me, wondering what surprise he had for me next.
