♱ FUNNEH'S POV ♱

The constant bickering was wearing me down. We’d been standing in the cafeteria, trying to figure out what to do for what felt like hours. Alec was arguing with Evan about the best escape route, Felicia was busy ranting, and Kyran just looked like he wanted to disappear.

My patience had run out. “I’m not waiting anymore,” I muttered to myself. I couldn’t stand the idea of staying here, stuck in this stale, eerie cafeteria, knowing that thing was still out there.

I took a deep breath, turning to face the group. “I’m leaving.”

Everyone stopped talking, staring at me in surprise.

“What do you mean, you’re leaving?” Alec asked, his eyebrows furrowing in concern.

“I’m done waiting around. If you want to sit here and argue, fine, but I’m going to find a way out of here.” I glanced toward the hallway leading away from the cafeteria. “I’m not sticking around to find out what happens next.”

Silence fell over the room as everyone exchanged nervous glances. I could see the hesitation on their faces, the fear creeping in, but I was done letting it control me.

Gold shifted awkwardly by the door. She looked torn, her eyes darting between me and the others. “Funneh, are you sure?” she asked quietly.

I nodded. “If anyone wants to come with me, you’re welcome. But I’m not waiting any longer.”

For a moment, no one moved. I could feel the weight of their stares on my back as I headed toward the door. I wasn’t expecting anyone to follow, but just as I reached the exit, I heard footsteps behind me.

Gold. Of course.

She jogged up to me, her face a mix of fear and uncertainty. “Wait up. I’m not letting you go out there alone.”

I smiled at her briefly, grateful for the company. “Thanks.”

Without another word, we pushed through the door and stepped into the hallway. The silence was deafening, the dim lights casting eerie shadows on the walls. The cafeteria doors creaked shut behind us, leaving the others inside.

“Where do we go now?” Gold whispered, her voice barely audible.

I took a deep breath, trying to suppress the growing sense of dread that had settled in my chest. “Let’s just keep moving. There’s got to be an exit somewhere.”

As we walked further down the corridor, the air felt colder, thicker. We hadn’t made it far when we heard the muffled sounds of footsteps, far too many footsteps, from behind us.

I turned around in time to see a shadow dart across the hallway behind us. My heart skipped a beat.

“Did you see that?” I whispered, gripping Gold’s arm tightly.

Gold nodded, her eyes wide with fear. “Yeah… I saw it.”

The footsteps grew louder. Then, without warning, the lights flickered once, twice, and went out.

The hallway plunged into complete darkness.

I grabbed Gold’s hand. “Run!”

We sprinted down the hallway, the sound of our shoes echoing off the walls. The sound of footsteps grew closer, louder. My heart pounded in my ears as we reached a set of doors at the end of the hall.

I pushed them open and burst into the room beyond—a classroom, long abandoned, desks overturned, the windows cracked and covered in dust. Gold slammed the door behind us, locking it as quickly as she could.

We both stood there, gasping for breath, trying to calm down.

“Where… where are the others?” Gold asked, looking around in panic.

I shook my head. “They didn’t follow us…”

Gold’s face paled. “We got split up…”

Suddenly, from outside the classroom door, there was a loud bang.

The footsteps had stopped.

But something—or someone—was waiting just on the other side.
