♱ FUNNEH'S POV ♱
The echo of our footsteps filled the dark hallways as we raced toward the main entrance. We had no other choice. Alec was right—we couldn’t stay hidden forever. We needed to get out, and we needed to get out now.
Gold was running beside me, her breath ragged, while Kyran and Alec were slightly ahead, leading the way. The closer we got to the front of the school, the more the air felt cold, wrong. I didn’t want to think about what that meant.
We finally reached the main doors, but my heart sank when I saw they were chained shut, the thick padlock gleaming in the faint light.
"No way," I whispered, panic creeping into my voice. "We can't be trapped here."
Kyran’s eyes darted to the windows on either side of the door, his face hardening. "We’re not trapped. We make our own way out."
Without waiting for a response, he grabbed a metal trash can from nearby and swung it at the nearest window. Glass shattered everywhere, the sound piercing the eerie silence. Shards of glass scattered like deadly rain, and the cold night air rushed in, biting at our skin.
"Go, now!" Alec urged, his voice low but commanding as he gestured for us to climb through.
I hesitated for a split second, staring at the jagged edges of the broken window frame. Gold squeezed my hand, her face pale but determined. "We’ve got no choice."
Kyran was the first to carefully step through the broken glass. I followed, feeling the sharp edges snagging on my clothes. Alec helped me as I climbed through, careful not to touch the remaining shards.
But as Gold made her way through, her foot slipped, and I heard a horrible sound—the sound of glass slicing through flesh.
Gold gasped sharply, clutching her arm as she stumbled forward. "Ow…!" Her voice was trembling, and when I looked down, I saw blood streaming from a deep gash on her forearm where the glass had cut her.
"Gold!" I rushed to her side, grabbing her arm to try to stop the bleeding.
Alec was right there, pulling off his jacket and wrapping it tightly around her arm. "Keep pressure on it. We’ll fix it when we get further away," he said, his voice steady but his eyes full of worry.
Gold winced but nodded, trying to stay brave as the blood soaked through the jacket.
"Let’s go!" Kyran called from ahead, already looking around outside. We moved quickly, heading into the darkness, but as soon as we reached the parking lot, the nightmare continued.
Our car was gone.
"What the—" Kyran started, his voice tight with disbelief.
"No way…" I whispered, my heart sinking.
There was nothing but an empty parking space where our escape had been. A chill ran down my spine, and my stomach twisted. The thing—whatever had been hunting us inside the school—wasn’t trapped in there anymore.
It had gotten out.
Alec swore under his breath, his jaw clenched as he scanned the area. "We need to find another way out of here."
Gold’s breathing was shaky beside me, and I held onto her tightly. The blood from her wound was still seeping through the makeshift bandage, and I knew we didn’t have much time before it got worse.
"We’re too exposed out here," Kyran said, his voice barely above a whisper. "We need to move, fast."
My heart pounded in my chest as we looked around, realizing that the danger hadn’t stayed behind in the school. It was here. Somewhere. Watching.
And our escape was far from over.
