When Vincent woke up he felt slightly comforted. The cushion of Rody's beds felt kind of nice against his bruised body. It still felt sore. Making it feel impossible to get out of bed. The warmth of the covers felt like heaven, and yet he noticed the time of day. The sun pierced through Rody's window.
"SHIT!" Vincent shouted as he shot out of bed before noticing a note on the bedside table. He snatched it up.
"Vincent don't bother coming downstairs for work. I know you think you have to work but you look like shit after last night, and you looked in pain. Take the day off please. -Rody." Vincent groaned. He didn't really want to take the day off. He got up and his legs were sore, and shaly. Not to mention his gut hurt like hell. But he could work today. He needed to work today. He needed the money. He needed to make it up to Manon.
Yet when he looked in the mirror he could see how awful he looked. Bags under his eyes, and his face puffy from bruises. Not to mention his arms and legs visible from the clothes Rody had lent him. A sew red scratches on his arms and legs from. Some have scarred over due to how rough Manon had gotten him there. His mind flashed back to the conversation he had with Rody. Neither of them were good for each other. He was just using her to fix himself, and she was using him for money.
A few tears began to slip down his face, and for once in his life he finally felt safe to cry. He slipped onto the floor curling in on himself. The cold tile caused goose bumps to cover his arms, and legs as more tears slipped from his eyes. Sobs retching through the empty apartment as Vincent melted into a ball of pity.
It took almost an hour for him to calm down, and he felt tired, and numb. The once cold tile was now warm due to him laying down on the floor for so long. He knew what he had to do. Slowly he clambered off of the floor. Leaving the bathroom before walking into the kitchen, and then the living room where a phone was on the coffee table. Vincent picked it up before dialing the all too familiar number. As the phone rang he felt a bit of guilt for not doing this in person. After all, he wanted to tell her in person. But right now he couldn't. Not in the state he was in.
"Hello?" Manon's sweet voice said through the other line. Now the guilt really trickled into Vincent's mind. Leaving him having second thoughts. Manon was once so sweet. She cared for him. She held his hand and gave him soft kisses. That was until they were repeated with blows. All sorts of money that should've gone into rent, and repairs around his apartment. His grip on the phone tightened.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" Manon asked, the annoyance in her voice dripping through.
"I want to break up."
Rody whistled as he walked up the stairs to his apartment. After a busy lunch he decided to bring Vincent some food up. Trying some different textures in the foods. He half expected Vincent to still be asleep. Or maybe he was relaxing by reading a book or watching television. However he did not expect to see Vincent pacing back and forth. Several crumpled papers beside him as he was chewing on one of Rody's pencils.
"That won't work. What was I thinking?" He muttered to himself as he flopped down onto the couch.
"Why did I do that?" Vincent groaned as he placed his head in his hands before running through his hair.
"Are you good?" Rody asked as he closed the door behind him. Vincent's head snapped over in his direction. An almost deranged look upon his face.
"I broke up with her." He said so bluntly Rody nearly dropped the plate he was holding.
"You're serious?" Vincent nodded, a look of guilt was on his face. Rody couldn't help but give a bright smile.
"That's Incredible!"
"It's AWFUL!" Rody's shoulders slumped as Vincent curled up into a ball on the couch.
"I pissed her off so bad, and now I feel bad. Maybe I should."
"No" Rody's voice came out harsher than he meant, and that's when he realized his mask had slipped. He cleared his throat. Though it would be okay to show some aggression. Manon had been a piece of shit to him after all.
"Sorry, I didn't mean it that harsh, but she treated you like shit, and neither of you were happy." Vincent sighed as he looked away while Rody sat down next to him.
"I know. It's just that I really care about her." Rody placed a hand on his shoulder.
"It's alright. You guys did date for what I can assume was a while." Vincent sat up.
"Two years."
"Just take your time." Rody said as he held the plate out. Vincent took it.
"Thanks." Rody nodded,
"I've got to go back to work. I'll see you later." Rody gave Vincent a smile back before leaving. As he did his smile faded. He would have to take care of Manon later.
