ABBY

*BEEP BEEP BEEP* I wake up to my alarm and let out a loud and unattractive groan before shutting it off and turning on my Bluetooth LED lights. I check my phone notifications and scroll through social media, taking a few minutes longer than I should because I really don't want to get up. It's currently 8am and I have to be at work by 10. Let me introduce myself.

I'm Abby. I'm 24 years old, from New York city, I'm an only child and I work as a waitress in a cafe. I think that's everything. Well, the basics at least. Oh! and I'm a huge fan of Billie Eilish. That's a very important piece of information, I promise.

The obsession is bad though. One time I was hanging out with a friend, and I randomly brought up Billie and my friend walked out of the room because I talk about her so much. I promise I've been working on dialing it down though. Don't ask how that's going though because it's not going well. Leave me alone, adults can fangirl too.

I get up, slide on my slippers and open my bedroom door to the smell of fresh pancakes being made by my mom. Yes, I'm 24 and I still live with my mom. What about it? Apartments are expensive. ESPECIALLY in New York City.

I go downstairs and am immediately greeted by my two dogs, Jasper and Bear.  I take the time to pet them both, giving each of them equal amounts of love and head into the kitchen where I see my mom by the stove.

"Good morning" I say with a smile. My mom is one of my best friends, we've been through a lot together. She turns around and smiles back at me. "Good morning! I'm making pancakes, as you can tell. Do you want some?" She says and directs her attention back to the pan in front of her. "Yesss pleaseee" I feel my mouth watering just smelling them. "Well then come get some. You have work today, right?"

I set my phone down at the kitchen table where I'll be sitting and walk over to her. I give her a quick side hug considering she's cooking, take a plate from the cabinet and pile on 2 pancakes. "Yes 10 to 6" I say while spreading butter on them and grabbing the syrup from the cabinet. "Okay I'm going to be working late tonight so I won't be home when you get out"

"That's okay, I have plans with Kelsey tonight. She mentioned that it's karaoke night at the bar down the street from her place and I wanna sing!" I say excitedly and she turns around to look at me with raised eyebrows. "Wow you haven't sung in public in a while. I'm proud of you. It's about time you get back out there with that voice of yours!" She says making me smile back at her.

I love to sing. I used to do karaoke night all the time but have been so busy with work and have been so tired because of it. I also write music but again, haven't had much time to work on that lately either.

"Wait, isn't Billie Eilish going to be here soon? Or she should be in the area now considering she has a show over at Madison Square Garden in a couple of days, right?" She speaks up making me groan. "Yes! and of course I can't afford a ticket. My favorite singer in the whole world is in my city and I can't see her" My head falls back in frustration. "Well, maybe you'll see her on the street somewhere? Maybe she'll go out and about and tour the city" She raises her eyebrows at me once again.

"Yeah that's true. But with my luck, I won't see her anywhere and everyone else in the city will" She gives me a sad smile. "Okay I have to get ready now. Thank you for breakfast! It was great like always! Lunch on me tomorrow? I have the day off". "Of course, sounds fun" She gives me a kiss on the cheek and I quickly wash my plate and head back upstairs to my room to get ready for work.

*Time skip*

I open the door to the cafe and walk in to see we already have a good number of customers. I go behind the counter and see my best friend Kelsey making an order. "Abbyyy! Thank God, you're finally here! Tess called out so we're short staffed and for some reason half the city decided to get coffee and a muffin from THIS cafe today" She rolls her eyes causing me too as well. "Of course they did. Okay let me clock in and set my bag down in the office and I'll be right out to help" I tell her and do as I said I would. When I get to the office, I see the owner Alice sitting at the desk writing something.

Alice is in her 70's and can't do much but loves owning the cafe like she has the past 30 years, so she does all of the paperwork, submits orders, and does all of the behind-the-scenes stuff. While Tess, Kelsey and I help with the other work like helping customers, cleaning and putting away the orders.

I swear she is the sweetest women I have ever met.

"Good morning, Alice!" She looks up and smiles once she sees who it is. "Oh! Good morning, Abby! How are you today?"

"I'm great! How are you feeling today?" I ask her as I set down my bag.

"Never better!" She says with a light laugh causing me too as well.

"It's getting a little busy out there so I'm going to help Kelsey. Please let us know if you need anything okay?" I say to her while turning towards the door.

"Will do!" I smile at her once more, leave the office and Go to a register to help some people.

"Hi! Welcome to Mad Hatter Cafe, can I have a name for the order?" I say to my first customer of the day".

Hello everyone! okay first, thank you so much for reading my story, if anyone is. I know most, if not all people say that in the authors notes of the first chapter but thank you! This is the first fanfic I've ever actually written. I've started them before and then gave up because I thought I sucked at writing. Which I probably do, but I'm going to try and stick to this one because I have so many ideas! So again, thank you for reading and I promise it will be worth sticking around for.
