TW: Guns, Shootings

A/N: Hi all. I know it has been a while since I have updated this story. I had a terrible time mentally for a while so it has been hard to finish. But I am back and ready to finish this. I won't leave y'all waiting so let's get into this since I left y'all on a cliffhanger.

Colby's POV

I heard the sounds before I registered what they could have been. Sam was up and heading to the door before I even could move an inch. Doctor Greene is panicking a little and tells us we should stay put, as he walks out the door to investigate the sound. Sam and I just look at each other for a little bit. How does this even happen? I mean seriously how does someone even get a gun in a hospital? I am a little mad that this had to happen today of all days when I was supposed to be released and going back to school with Sam.

"Sam, I am not going to sit here waiting for something bad to happen to us. We need to find a way out of here, or at least somewhere safer." Sam nods and he grabs my hand. "Let's go then," I say swiftly before pushing open the office door. I look both ways making sure no one is around before we quietly walk down the hallway. I decided to head away from the rooms and toward the other end of the ward. It sounded like the gunman was towards the rooms so I am hoping that is true and that we are putting some distance between us and the gunfire. We make our way down the hall as quickly as we can before we arrive at the double doors that lead down to a lower level of the hospital. I remember walking this way yesterday after I got my cast on but I don't remember much else. I go to push open the door and it doesn't move. I look at Sam and he looks back over at me. We both try a few more times to open the door but nothing works. I start to panic before Sam grabs my hand and reassures me that we will be okay.

We don't have another option but to head in the direction of the gunshots. I started to think about all the different areas that I have been to in this ward. I think the common room might have a staircase by the kitchen but I am freaking out so it is hard to think about all the different areas of this place. I try to take a couple of deep breaths so I can focus on the layout of the ward and the hospital. I know there is a staircase by the rooms but I think that is where the gunman is located right now. There is another staircase by the common room and another one by the nurse's station. I think I want to try the staircase by the common room and kitchen first since that doesn't require me to have to go to the rooming area.

I whisper to Sam " Listen to me. There is a kitchen and common room up the hall a bit. We will grab something to protect ourselves just in case and then we will use the stairs right there to leave. We will be okay Sam. Okay?"

He nods as I grab his hand and lead him in the direction of the kitchen. We move quietly but as fast as we can. I open the door to the kitchen and look around for anything to defend ourselves. There is absolutely nothing here, which I guess makes sense since we are in a mental hospital. I grab two lunch trays and hand one to Sam.

"Hold it in front of you just in case. It is better than nothing." He nods and we start to make our way to the stairs. I tug once realizing that this set of stairs is also locked. Clearly whoever is doing this knows what they are doing. They locked the doors so we couldn't leave. It makes me nervous that they thought about all this. I signal to Sam to follow me towards the other end of the ward. As we walk I wonder where everyone else is. Are they all in their rooms? Are they okay? I start to worry more about them than I do about myself.

I am so lost in thought that I don't even realize that we have come to the doors leading to the rooms. I quickly look through the window and don't see anyone. I am a little worried that I don't see anyone, it feels like a trap. I look over at Sam who is shaking from fear.

"Okay Sam, look at me. I am going to open the door very slowly. After I open the door I need you to go in and get behind the nurses station okay? We will be okay babe. Alright. I love you so much!" I kiss him on the lips fast as he returns the favor before saying I love you too. After he kisses me I nod and he nods back. I open the door and he bolts to the nurse's station. I mouth for him to stay there as I make my way up further. He nods and ducks behind the station. I slowly make my way up the hall before I hear something that stops me in my tracks.

"Colby?" I stop in my tracks as Jake rounds the corner up ahead. However, Jake is not alone holding him closely with a gun up to his head is Zach.

"You," I say pointing at Zach.

"Surprise," he says before firing the gun right into Jake's leg. Jake lets out a blood-curtailing scream as he drops to the ground. A tear escapes my eye as I look from Jake to Zach. Zach just stares at Jake before he looks up at me.

He stares me down before he says "You thought I was just going to let you leave that easy? Not this time Colby. Let's talk man to man before I end you right here."

A/N: LOL ending on another cliffhanger. We have like 2 more chapters before this is officially done! What do you think is gonna happen?
