Felix's POV
Felix sat in front of the glowing computer screen, his heart hammering in his chest as the surveillance footage loaded. V, with his brow furrowed in concentration, tapped furiously at the keyboard beside him, trying to break through the layers of security protecting the system. They had been at it for hours—days, really—and the frustration was gnawing at both of them.
Finally, the screen flickered, and the grainy feed of the hallways appeared.
"There," V muttered, leaning closer. "We're in."
Felix's pulse quickened as he scanned the screen. The hall was long, dimly lit, and eerily sterile. Every detail sent a chill down his spine. And then, like a ghost, Hyunjin appeared.
Felix's breath hitched. Hyunjin's once radiant presence was reduced to a pale, hollow version of the person he once knew. His hair, once vibrant and full of life, hung in limp strands, swaying slightly as he walked. There was no light in his eyes anymore—just a cold, empty void. He moved like a machine, slow and deliberate, his every step echoing through the hall.
"He looks dead," Felix whispered, his voice shaky. His stomach churned. The last time he saw Hyunjin in person, he had some semblance of himself. Now, there was nothing left.
On the screen, a man in a suit approached Hyunjin—his boss, the one pulling the strings behind the scenes. Felix clenched his fists as the man handed Hyunjin a small white pill. Without a word, Hyunjin took it, swallowing it dry, his face impassive.
"Prepare for the next assignment," the boss ordered, his voice cold and commanding. "Ten more people. I expect it done cleanly, like last time. No mistakes, understand?"
Hyunjin nodded once, emotionless. He walked toward a nearby rack, picking up a dark suit—his uniform for the bloodshed that awaited. There was no hesitation in his movements, no reluctance. Just a robotic compliance.
Felix's hand tightened around the edge of the table. Every muscle in his body screamed for him to stop this, to break into that building and pull Hyunjin out of there. But all he could do was watch, helplessly.
V's voice cut through the tense silence. "They've really done a number on him. Look at him, man. He's... he's completely gone." V shook his head, his hands faltering on the keyboard for a moment.
Felix didn't reply. He couldn't. His eyes were glued to the screen as Hyunjin disappeared down the hall. The boss lingered, turning to one of his men nearby.
"Did you see the mess he made last week?" the boss said, chuckling darkly. "Slashed through them like they were nothing. A real artist, that one. A katana in his hands is like giving a painter a brush. It's beautiful, in a sick way."
The man next to him laughed too. "Brutal, though. Not many left standing after that."
"I like it that way," the boss said, his voice laced with satisfaction. "No witnesses. No survivors. He's perfect for this. We'll keep him dosed up, keep him sharp. And soon, he'll be unstoppable."
Felix felt the bile rise in his throat as he listened to them speak. He couldn't take it anymore. His hands trembled as he reached for the laptop, slamming it shut with a loud bang.
The room was silent now, except for the sound of Felix's heavy breathing. His heart pounded in his chest, and a crushing weight settled on his shoulders. Tears welled in his eyes, spilling over as he sat back, staring blankly ahead.
"Felix..." V started, his voice soft and concerned. He didn't need to say more. He could see it—the devastation etched across Felix's face.
"It's my fault," Felix choked out, his voice barely a whisper. His tears flowed freely now, staining his cheeks. "I left him. I didn't save him. I let them turn him into this... this monster."
