It was the first day after summer break, the first day of school. Most people dread the start of school, but not Hades. He had been counting the days until the start of school so he could see Maleficent again every day.

Even if it meant putting up with her idiotic boyfriend, Stefan, Hades could not stand him for any actual reason other than his jealousy, perhaps. What he did not know was that his hatred would soon be justified.

He still remembered the day they met, the first day at Merlin Academy, in great detail, even though it had been a year ago.

(flashback)

Hades was starting to get bored with Merlin talking about the history of the school, explaining rules that he did not care about. On top of that, it seemed as if the school was going to be filled to the brim with goody goodies. At least he thought so until he saw a certain girl.

She had the most magnificent black hair, which made her skin seem even paler, green eyes that made him catch his breath and an addictive smile. On top of all of that, she had horns and huge dark wings. She wore what seemed like a handmade necklace with a blue pendant, her horns were decorated with silver rings. He hadn't lived long on earth yet, but she looked like what he'd imagined winter to look like. It seemed like winter was going to be his favorite season.

She was fascinating, really. She definitely was the ghoul for him

He was captivated by her. So captivated that he went over to her, introduced himself.
"Hi there, dark and deadly, the name is Hades, god of the underworld. What's your name?" He said, dramatically gesturing with his hands.

"I'm Maleficent" the girl said, the mild annoyance louder than her words. As Merlin went on and on about more rules than anyone cared for. She rolled her eyes at some of his stupid rules. He might be a great wizard and knows a lot of spells, but his rules just annoyed her.

"Maleficent", Hades thought, this name would warm his soul. At least it would if he had one.

"Why does he need this many rules? It's not like anyone is actually listening, anyway." Maleficent whispered to him, to not draw attention, her annoyance growing.

She hated rules just like him. She was great.

Suddenly, another boy came over. He was their age, his hair brown and his skin pale. He went to stand right next to Maleficent and planted a kiss on her cheek. "Hey, I'm Stefan." The boy said, with a thick accent, as he turned to look at Hades.

"Hades." He replied, he hated Stefan already. He hated that he got to be this close to Maleficent, that he could kiss her like that, he hated him because he had her heart.

For some reason though, he had a bad feeling about this Stefan.

During the rest of the day, he kept his eyes on Maleficent, while Merlin talked about the different classes. Multiple ones of those included magic, such as magic cooking, healing magic & nature bending and, lastly, Curses 101. Hades saw how Maleficent looked excited as Merlin introduced those subjects. Seems like Maleficent was very interested in magic, probably had magic of her own.

He had known her for such a short amount of time, and he was already knee-deep in love with her.

Since that fateful day, his feelings for Maleficent became stronger with each passing week and his hatred for Stefan was getting harder to control every time he saw him.

He also met Hook and Morgie that day, and they'd all become friends and a part of Uliana's gang. His closest friend in their little group was Maleficent.

After leaving the underworld, he went to school, specifically the schoolyard, to meet his friends. Hades thought about how much had changed throughout the year.

Uliana, his niece, has become obsessed with being more evil and cunning than her older sister, Ursula.

Hook and Morgie finally got together even though they pretended otherwise.

Maleficent had to cover her horns, because Merlin thought it would be a safety hazard. She had also figured out that she was the last descendant of the phoenix.

During summer break, Maleficent and Hades write letters to each other. She had told him how life was in the Moors, how she despised the human kingdom for always trying to have a war against her Kingdom. She told him about the adventures and about her and Stefan's relationship. She celebrated her birthday. She also told him about the gift Stefan gave her for her 15th birthday. He claimed it was true a love kiss.

Hades had been heartbroken, of course, had treated pain and panic worse than ever, but couldn't bring himself to get over her.

In return, he told her about his life in the underworld, about fights he had with his brothers, about whatever happened between the gods, about the souls, about all the times Pain and Panic had messed up again.

As he arrived at school, he ran into Maleficent. She looked as marvelous as ever, carrying a marvelous book. Hades waved at her and as they walked to one another he recognized the book as the purple and black spell book he gifted her on her birthday so she could write down her own spells.

"Hades, I missed you!" Maleficent said, with a sly grin. She was joking for the most part, but this joke held a bit of truth. Especially since Fe cannot lie. She wrapped her arms around him in a hug.

At her touch his heart started beating at a fast pace, crying he reciprocated the hug, he never wanted to let go of her ever again, he wanted to memorize the feeling of touching her, wanted to burn the memory of her touching him into his brain forever.

"I missed you, too." Hades said, but he missed her more than he could admit, perhaps more than she would ever know.

She let go of him, smiled slightly, and together they went to the schoolyard to catch up with their friends.
