It had been an unusually short day for the students of Merlin Academy due to sick teachers, meaning for most students classes ended rather early.
This was the reason why a certain fairy and a god, spelled to live in the age of a teenage human and age as such, as a punishment, were entering a typical red diner, not far from the schoolground.
Hades opened the door for Maleficent, gesturing for her to walk in first. The warm air of the diner being such a difference to the cold air of late October that had been harboring outside.
She scanned the room for an empty booth. Standing in front of the god, her back to Hades.
He stared at her figure just a few steps away from him, so close yet so far away. He wanted to touch her, trace his fingers over her back, and tell her how beautiful she was.
She was magnetic, always attracting his attention and his gaze. Like the needle of a compass would always find north, his eyes would always find her.
The diner was full of people, mostly students that she barely recognized. The students, on the other hand, recognized her instantly and got out of their way in fear of their wrath.
„Come on." Maleficent said to him, taking his hand in hers, her pointed purple nails brushing against the back of his hand. Scratching the surface of his skin, just enough to send tingles through his body.
The checkboard floor was clicking under Maleficent's scepter as she walked, leading them.
He gulped, following her to the booth she had chosen for them. They sat down opposite one another. The god and the fairy started talking after ordering their food.
„You never told me why you were spelled." Maleficent stated she wanted to know more about the god she so liked. As a friend, of course.
„Don't judge," he said, causing her to lift her eyebrows. „After living in the underworld for so long, surrounded by dead people, I tried to overthrow Olympus." Hades explained.
„Really? You tried to overthrow your own brother?" Maleficent asked; she never would've guessed it.
„You never met Zeus, dear." Hades responded; the nickname flew out of his mouth before he could stop it, causing Maleficent to look away, perhaps to hide her blush from Hades.
„Indeed, but you have told me enough about your siblings that I cannot judge you for trying to overthrow Zeus." She clarified when she was sure the blush he had caused had gone away.
„Did you always reign over the underworld?" Maleficent asked; she hadn't studied Greek mythology as much as she would have liked. Perhaps she should.
„After defeating the titans, Poseidon, Zeus, and I had to decide who got which part of earth. Zeus got the heavens, Poseidon the oceans, and I got the underworld."
Maleficent nodded along; she wanted to know everything there was to know about Hades. She could listen to him explain Greek mythologies all day, just to listen to his voice. What was happening to her?
„That's why I am also in control of the world's riches." The god explained, staring into her green eyes, sharing the color of only the richest of emeralds, a gem rarer than the diamond itself.
Blue eyes met green eyes. Eyes that reminded Maleficent of the foggy nights in the Moors that she so loved. Eyes that reminded Hades of one of the most valuable gemstones, emeralds.
The eyes of their opposite reminded them of their home. Emeralds were rare, but they were found underneath the earth, so they were part of his domain.
She had started to like him more over the last months; she didn't understand why.
„I didn't know that." Maleficent responded, forcing herself to look down, stopping herself from looking at his blue eyes.
„Ms. Know it all, doesn't know it all, huh?" He exclaimed, smirking at Maleficent.
„Oh, you're a fool," the girl replied, glaring at the god. He started to laugh at this statement; he knew very well that she didn't mean it. Soon she joined his laughter and couldn't contain it for long.
„The funniest thing is, my brothers were quite specific about the curse being lifted." Hades mentioned.
„How so?" She inquired; she knew quite a lot about magic, having studied it since she was a young child.
„The spell can only be lifted by a true love kiss after I turn twenty-one. I think they wanted to torture me by making me live as a human for so long," the god explained.
„Oh, that's unfortunate." Maleficent laughed; he smiled at her. Hearing her laugh after all she had been through was something so beautiful, there was nothing to compare it to.
„So, you are also the richest god?" She asked him a few minutes later, out of curiosity; it wouldn't have changed anything about her feelings for him, not that she had any. He nodded in response.
„Well, now expect a grant Christmas gift from you, Hades," she said jokingly.
„Of course, nothing less for the strongest dark fae herself," he answered with faux formality, head held high with his hand on his chest as if he swore allegiance.
In the mean time, a waitress had brought their food to their table: fries, a burger and Coke for Hades, sandwiches, salad, and a strawberry milkshake for Maleficent.
Maleficent used some magic to once again prank her peers. She lifted the hat of one of the people in the booth opposite to them, making the hat fly away. She pulled in the air, green magic at the top of her fingers, resulting in someone moving their head slightly as if someone had pulled their hair. Soon a fight broke out between the group.Hades just laughed; he loved her humor; it was right up his alley.
„So, do you have any plans for Halloween?" Hades asked; it was only a few short days away. He was eating his fries, Maleficent staring at them longingly.
„We could always throw a party! I've never been to one." Maleficent admitted there weren't many parties in the Moors. If she was honest, she didn't care for how many people would come if anyone came at all, as long as Hades would come. She wanted to spend the time with him.
No matter how much time she spent with him, she always desired more time with him. The only problem with that was that she wasn't sure if she felt the same way.
Yes, they spent a lot of time together; they were the closest to one another in their friend group, but did he like her like that?
She was thinking too much over something so little; they were friends, best friends even. They were nothing more, and she supposed that's the problem.
„Yes, a party would be something," Hades agreed hesitantly, pulling her out of her thoughts. He wasn't a big party person, but if it would make her happy, he would enjoy it as much as he could.
Noticing that she again looked at his fries, he pushed the rest of them towards her, offering her to eat them.
"I saw how you looked at them," was all he said before she started eating away.
They started planning the party they wanted to hold, just for them and their gang. They would throw it in the night of Halloween on the schoolyard; maybe use some magic to decorate it in such a short time; not that they needed to decorate much since the school would be decorated quite a bit for the holiday.
