The warm sunlight filters through the kitchen window, illuminating a rustic wooden table set for three. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee fills the air as Loyden flips pancakes on the griddle
Selah lounges at the table, scrolling through her phone, while Charles sits across from her, looking concerned.
cheerfully "Breakfast is ready! Dig in"!
Selah barely looks up, mumbling a thanks to her mom, as she continues scrolling.
Charles clearing her throat Selah, can we talk for a minute?
Selah glances up, eyebrows raised.
About what?
About your attitude lately. It’s been a bit rude, especially at home.
Loyden pauses, sensing the tension but stays quiet.
(defensive) Rude? I’m just being honest.
There’s a difference between honesty and being dismissive. You’ve been snapping at everyone, even when they’re trying to help.
her expression softens, but she crosses her arms. Selah pushes her chair back, a frown on her face as she stands up.
frustrated, "I still think you’re overreacting. I’m just being myself".
calmly, "We just want you to be mindful, Selah. Her dada said"
Selah shakes her head, grabbing her backpack.
sighing "Whatever. I need to go".
She heads for the door, not looking back.
"We’re here if you want to talk later"!Loyden softly tone
Selah opens the door, pausing for a moment.Without turning I’ll see you guys after school.
She walks out, leaving Charles and Loyden exchanging worried glances.
The kitchen is quiet except for the clinking of cutlery. Loyden finishes her coffee and sets down her cup, looking at Charles with concern.
"We need to talk about Selah’s behavior. I feel like she’s testing us more lately."
Charles deeply Sigh before she respond to her wife "I’ve noticed. The way she spoke to us last week was disrespectful. It’s like she doesn’t take us seriously."
"Exactly. I worry that if we don’t establish clear boundaries now, it’ll only get worse. But I’m torn. I don’t want to come down too hard on her."
"I understand, but discipline is necessary. We can’t let her think there are no consequences for her actions. It sets a dangerous precedent."
"True, but I believe she needs to understand why certain behaviors are unacceptable. Punishment alone won’t teach her."
The kitchen, tension hanging in the air as Loyden and Charles discuss Selah. Just as they reach a consensus, Charles glances at his phone.
suddenly serious, "I need to take this. It’s my assistant about an important meeting."
frowning, "Now? We were just getting somewhere with this conversation."
standing up, "I know, but this can’t wait. It’s about the project deadline, and we’re behind schedule."
sighs, "Fine, but we need to come back to this. Selah’s behavior is important, and I want us to be aligned."
holding up a finger "I promise we will. Let’s finish this conversation tonight. I’ll make sure to wrap up quickly."
"Alright, but I hope you really mean it. She needs both of us on the same page."
walking toward the phone, "I will. Just give me a few minutes."
As Charles steps away, Loyden takes a deep breath, feeling the weight of their discussion linger in the air. She glances at the clock, knowing time is ticking, and silently resolves to make sure they address Selah’s needs together.
Selah sits alone in the backseat of the car, her expression sullen as she gazes out the window. She pulls out her phone and calls Tita Josiah.
"Tita Josiah, it’s me." she muttered
cheerfully, "Hi, Selah! What’s up?"
frustrated,"I really need to go shopping, with you after School."
"That’s tough. Do you want to go shopping with me after school?"
perking up, "Yes! Can we? I just want to feel good about myself, can you buy me some new clothes?and not like I’m wearing the same things all the time."
"No problem. Just tell your parents you’re hanging out with me after school. I’ll take you shopping."
"Okay, but I’ll need to keep it a secret for now. They wouldn’t understand."
"Got it. We’ll make it a fun outing! Just remember to stay safe and keep your phone charged."
"Thanks, Tita Josiah! I can’t wait!"
As Selah ends the call, a smile spreads across her face. She feels excited about the plan, ready to escape her parents' strictness, even if just for a little while.
Selah walked into the classroom, her eyes narrowing as she spotted Cally. Memories of past encounters flooded her mind, and she felt a surge of annoyance. Nearby, Crielle and Aviona were whispering, casting amused glances at Cally, who seemed blissfully unaware of the tension. Selah took a deep breath, deciding how to handle the moment.
As Selah sat down, Crielle and Aviona leaned in, sharing snickers about Cally’s latest mishap. Their laughter filled the air, and Selah couldn’t help but join in, the shared amusement lightening her mood. Cally, still unaware, continued her conversation, fueling their mockery even more. It felt good to bond over a common target, but Selah wondered if this was the ultimate way to handle her anger.
Cally sat there, oblivious to the laughter aimed her way, completely unaware of the mockery surrounding her. It was hard not to feel a twinge of sympathy; after all, everyone has their struggles. Selah glanced at Cally, momentarily questioning if their laughter was justified or just mean-spirited. It made her wonder about the ultimate impact of their actions.
