It was a warm Saturday afternoon, and Selah had been looking forward to spending some time with her mom, Loyden, and her dada, Charles. She had been feeling a little left out lately, with all the attention focused on her baby brother, Silas, who had been born just a couple of months ago. Selah missed the days when she had her parents' attention, and today she decided to ask if they could go shopping together, like they used to before Silas was born.

Selah walked into the living room where her mom was gently rocking Silas to sleep, while her dad was nearby, preparing a bottle. She stood by the door for a moment, hesitating, but then she mustered up the courage.

"Mom, Dada, do you think we could go shopping today? You know, just for a few hours?" Selah asked, trying to sound casual but hopeful. "We could go to the mall, maybe grab something to eat too. It's been a while."

Loyden looked up from Silas, her face softening as she saw Selah standing there with that hopeful expression. She exchanged a quick glance with Charles before gently sighing.

"Selah, I know you’ve been wanting to spend some time with us," Loyden began softly, her voice apologetic. "But Silas is still so young, and I really need to stay with him right now. Your dada and I are both focused on making sure he’s okay and getting everything he needs."

Charles nodded in agreement, looking over at Selah with a sympathetic smile. "We’re still trying to adjust to having a newborn in the house again. It’s been a bit overwhelming."

Selah’s face fell slightly, disappointment creeping in. "But it’s just for a few hours. We don’t have to stay out long… I just thought it would be nice, like how we used to go out before."

Loyden frowned slightly, feeling a pang of guilt. She could see how much Selah wanted this, but at the same time, she knew her priority had to be Silas right now. “I promise we’ll go out again soon, but today I really need to focus on Silas. He’s still so little, and it’s been hard trying to balance everything."

Selah bit her lip, trying to hold back the frustration building up inside her. She understood that Silas needed a lot of attention, but it still hurt to feel like she was being pushed aside. "It feels like you guys don’t have time for me anymore. Ever since Silas was born, everything is about him," she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper.

Charles stood up and walked over to Selah, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We’re sorry, Selah. We never want you to feel that way. It’s just… things are different now. But that doesn’t mean we love you any less or that we don’t care about spending time with you."

Loyden, still holding Silas, looked at her daughter with concern. "Selah, I know this has been a big change, and I promise we’ll figure out how to make more time for you. You’re still so important to us. But today, I need to stay home with your brother. Maybe we can plan something special next weekend?"

Selah looked between her parents, trying to swallow her disappointment. She knew they were right Silas was just a baby and needed a lot of care but it didn’t make it any easier. She forced a small smile. "Okay, I understand. Maybe next time."

Loyden smiled gently, relieved that Selah was trying to be understanding. "Thank you, sweetheart. We’ll make it up to you, I promise."

Selah nodded, though the ache in her chest lingered. She quietly turned and headed to her room, trying to shake off the feeling of being left out. She loved her little brother, but it was hard not to feel like she was fading into the background.

As she sat on her bed, Selah sighed, pulling out her phone to distract herself. She hoped that soon, things would go back to normal or at least, she’d get to have a day with her parents like they used to.
