It was early morning, and the soft light of dawn began to fill the bedroom. Loyden, now 9 months pregnant, stirred in bed, feeling the familiar discomfort in her lower back. She sighed softly, trying to shift her weight, realizing she needed to get up to use the bathroom.

Carefully, she attempted to push herself up, but the weight of her full-term belly made it difficult. Just as she struggled to sit up, her wife, Charles, who had been lightly dozing next to her, stirred awake.

“Loy, you okay?” she asked groggily, her voice full of concern as she noticed her trying to get out of bed.

“I just need to pee,” Loyden said, her voice tired but with a small smile, knowing her wife’s protective nature would kick in immediately.

Charles was already sitting up, reaching out to help her before she could even attempt to stand. “Here, let me help,” she said gently, wrapping her arm around her and supporting her as she swung her legs over the edge of the bed.

Once she was seated on the edge, she carefully helped her to her feet. “You don’t have to do everything yourself, you know,” she teased, giving her a soft smile as she walked beside her, making sure she was steady.

Loyden chuckled softly, leaning into hee support. “I’m 9 months pregnant, not broken, Hon. I can still pee by myself.”

Charles grinned, her hand resting gently on her back as they made their way to the bathroom. “I know, but I’m still here just in case.”

Once she was safely inside, Charles waited outside the door, leaning against the wall. She always felt a little helpless during these final weeks, wanting to do more for her but knowing there was only so much he could do.

When Loyden emerged, she was right there, offering her arm to guide her back to bed. “Almost there, Hom,” she said softly, easing her back onto the mattress.

She gave her a grateful smile, lying back down with a relieved sigh. “Thank you, Hon.”

She kissed her forehead gently, brushing a hand across her belly. “Anytime, Loy. You just focus on keeping our little one safe in there.”

As she settled back into bed beside her, Loyden couldn’t help but feel grateful for Charles’ unwavering support. They were both exhausted, but together, they were ready for the final stretch before their baby arrived.

A few minutes after Loyden had settled back into bed, she suddenly felt a sharp, unmistakable ache in her lower abdomen. She gasped softly, clutching her belly. The ache intensified, and it wasn’t just discomfort anymore it was the real thing. Her breath quickened as the contraction gripped her.

"Charles," she whispered urgently, reaching out to shake her arm.

Charles, who had just started drifting back to sleep, immediately woke up, her instincts kicking in at the tone of her voice. "What’s wrong?" She asked, sitting up quickly.

Loyden’s face was tense, and her hand gripped the sheets. "I think... it’s time," she said through gritted teeth, her voice tight with the pain of another contraction.

Charles’ eyes widened, instantly alert. "Time? You mean now?"

Loyden nodded, breathing heavily. "The baby’s coming, Charles. I need to get to the hospital."

Without missing a beat, Charles sprang into action. She gently helped Loyden out of bed, moving quickly but carefully. "Okay, okay, we’re going," she said, her voice calm but with an edge of urgency. She grabbed the packed hospital bag from the closet thankfully, they had prepared for this moment.

As she helped Loyden into a coat, she clutched her arm during another wave of pain, squeezing her eyes shut. "Breathe, Hon, just breathe," Charles said, trying to keep her steady as they made their way to the car.

The drive to the hospital was tense, with Loyden’s contractions growing closer together. Charles kept glancing at her, her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, doing her best to stay calm.

“We’re almost there,” she reassured her, though her heart was racing.

Finally, they reached the hospital, and Charles quickly helped Loyden into a wheelchair as the nurses rushed to assist. “You’re going to be fine, uyab,” she whispered, kissing her forehead as they wheeled her toward the delivery room.

Loyden looked up at her, despite the pain, and managed a weak smile. "It’s happening, Charles. We’re going to meet our second baby soon."

Charles squeezed her hand, her  heart full of love and nervous excitement. “We’ve got this, hon.”
