Rick sits on the cell floor. His hands still chained. He looks at Beth who looked scared.
"How's your stomach?" Beth asked trying to focus on something else.
"It's okay" Rick said.
"Rick I'm scared" Beth admits.
"Hey how about we talk a little more to get your mind off it" Rick suggests.
"Okay tell me how you became a superhero?" Beth said.
"Well it's a long story" Rick admits.
"I'm a good listener" Beth said.
"It started 3 years ago" Rick began.

A 13 year Rick stands in a hospital room holding a painted picture in his hands. In the hospital bed was his mother laying there sick.
"Hi mom" Rick said.
Rick's mom opens her eyes and smiles at him.
"Rick how are you sweetheart?" Rick's mom said weakly.
"I made you a painting" Rick said as he shows her a painting of a flower.
"Beautiful" Rick's mom said with a weak smile.
Rick holds his mother's hand.
"Rick I need to tell you something" Rick's mom said.
"Anything" Rick said.
"I know you don't know your father that well since he came back a few months ago but I want you to trust him" Rick's mom said.
"He came back for you" Rick said.
"He came back to take care of you. Rick I'm not gonna make it" Rick's mom said with sadness in her voice.
"Please don't say that I need you" Rick begs.
"I love you Rick always remember that" Rick's mom said.
"I will" Rick said as he tries to hold back tears.
"Please stay with me" Rick's mom begs.
"I'm here mom I'm here" Rick said as he holds her hand.
"That's good... I love you... I love you... I love you" Rick's mom repeats as she dies slowly.
"I love you too mom" Rick whispers as tears stream down his face.

"I'm sorry about your mom" Beth said.
"It's okay I knew it would happen I just didn't know when" Rick said sadly.
"What did she die from ?" Beth asked.
"Heart failure" Rick said sadly.
"I'm sorry" Beth said.
"It's okay" Rick said.
"Then what happened?" Beth asked.
"Then my dad came in" Rick said.

Rick sits down on a chair as he tears up.
Rex sits down next to Rick.
"Hey champ" Rex said.
"Hi dad" Rick said.
"I know I came back when I heard about your mother" Rex said.
"I'm glad you back dad" Rick said.
"I know it's been five years since I seen you" Rex said.
"Where did you go ?" Rick asked.
"There's something I never told you about my work so I have to show you something" Rex said.
Rex gets up and leads Rick to a shed.
"Your old shed ?" Rick asked.
"It's were I kept my stuff" Rex said.
"What kind of stuff?" Rick asked.
Rex leads Rick into the shed. There was a case that held black and yellow costume.
"Whoa is that a super hero costume?" Rick asked.
"Yes I'm the superhero Hourman" Rex said.
"That's cool" Rick said in amazement.
"Now I'm passing the torch to you" Rex said.
Rex walks over to the case and takes out the custome. He hand it to Rick.
"Your Hourman now" Rex said with a proud smile as he gives him the hourglass
Rick smiles back as he puts the hourglass around his neck.

"So that's how I became Hourman" Rick said.
"That's so cool" Beth said.
"Yeah sometimes I wonder if that's what my mom would of wanted for me. I put on the hourglass because I thought I could honor her" Rick said.
"Did she know about your dad's double life ?" Beth asked.
"I'm not sure actually" Rick admits.
"I'm a nerd for superheros" Beth admits.
"Beth guess what?" Rick said.
"What ?" Beth asked.
"I'm a nerd too" Rick said with a smile.
"No way I never thought I would meet someone like me!" Beth said with a smile.
Rick smiles back at her.
