The soft hum of the engine fills the car as I tap my finger against the wheel. I don't know why she wanted us to leave this early, but I guess it's fine. As the car bumps along the paved road, I turn my head to glance at my friend who was in the passenger seat. She was just staring out the window, her head propped against her fist as her hair drifts into her face.

Unlike her normal style of a high ponytail and low bangs over her right eye, she just had her hair down this morning. It also felt a bit weird, seeing her not chomping down on a sucker right now. Though her bag of said suckers, was right beside her in the cup holder. I do wonder how she doesn't get cavities with how many she consumes.

I turn my eyes back to the road and notice through the trees that the first rays of sunlight were appearing. A quick glance towards my phone I had up for navigation also said we were about ten minutes from our destination. Neat. I guess Bally and I can witness a sunrise together. Finally. Usually our sleep schedules were so different from each other's that I genuinely wonder how we even find time to hang out with each other outside of work. Well, work for me. Parties and whatever else for Bally.

With a gentle sigh, Bally speaks up.

"So- you haven't asked where I'm dragging you off to," She says with a note of a jest. Though definitely she seemed tired. I shrug, my eyes still on the road to make sure no early morning animals became roadkill today. "Well to be fair, I'm used to you dragging me places with no warning."

"You mean your bosses dragging you places without warning." She chuckles a bit as I just roll my eyes.

"Ok ok. Fine, I guess my bosses as well drag me everywhere."

"Bal, you have been literally all over the city to fix lights and faulty electrics, on top of those meetings! I still don't understand how you manage your life with it so busy!"

Bally just laughs, making me smile as well. Ok. I guess she was right.

"Well I'm pretty used to it by now, so that's your answer!"

She sighs and I can hear her roll her eyes at me. But we both laugh. To be honest, it was always nice just spending time with Bally. It was either nice silence, or one of us saying something that both of us were laughing at.

The road turns and I see a flat area in front of us. Several structures were set up, alongside a Ferris wheel, tents, and several food trucks. Oh love of-

"Seriously? The state fair, Bally?" I say, chuckling, as I drive down the road then find a parking space at a point where both of us could see the rising sun. As I put the car into park, I turn to see Bally smiling. "Hey, both of us haven't been here in years. I think it is a good waste of our day." With a stretch, Bally sighs, then slips a hand into her bag of suckers and hands a blue raspberry one to me, while she takes out a cherry for herself.

I take the sucker, then unwrap it and stick it into my mouth before I tuck the wrapper into the little trash can I kept under the console. "Thanks. I guess it's been long overdue, huh," I ask her from around the sucker in my mouth then glance over at her.

"Way too overdue," She agrees.

"Well. Might as well enjoy the sunrise before we spend way too much at this fair."

"Pfft- Bal! You aren't spending a dime! This is my treat!"

"Bally!"

"Nope! No take-backsies!"
