Third Person POV
The curtain slayed slightly with the evening breeze, letting in just enough of the fading light to paint the room in glow and shadow.
Three days later, you'd still find Noel by Cyrus's side. She had taken over the chair by the window at some point, one leg tucked under her as she focused on the game on her iPad. Cyrus was awake, properly awake now, reading a book and the silence between them had long since settled into something familiar.
Not awkward.
Just.. theirs.
Cyrus shifted slightly as he closed the book and watched Noel for a moment before speaking.
"Damien told me"
Noel didn't look up.
"Told you what?"
"Everything, including the threat"
That got her attention. Her eyes moved to him, calm, expectant.
"What about it?"
Cyrus studied her, like he was trying to understand something that didn't quite make sense.
"You don't seem bothered"
Noel blinked once. Then leaned back into the chair like this was a normal conversation.
"Should I be?"
"They marked you" he said, voice still rough but steady. "A red X, 'X marks the spot' that's not exactly subtle."
Noel shrugged.
A small, careless lift of her shoulder.
"Nothing changes, whether I worry about it or not" she said, "so I'd rather not"
"Besides either than bombing the mall, they haven't done anything news worthy, all they did was cross me out dramatically, I'm pretty sure that too was for the plot"
Cyrus just stared at her.
She titled her head slightly.
"What?"
"Noel, these people are standing on business -"
"Shaky business if I do say so myself"
He blinked.
"You're impossible"
She made a face at that.
"Wow. I survive everything life throws at me and that's the conclusion you come to?"
Cyrus didn't respond.
He just... kept looking at her.
Longer than necessary. Like he was genuinely questioning something.
Noel narrowed her eyes. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Like what?"
"Like I have mental issues"
He didn't deny it.
That made her scoff.
"Please. If anything, I'm the most stable person in this house."
Cyrus gave her a look. The same one.
She pointed at him. "Don't"
A knock didn't even come, the door opened and Luca walked in like he owned the place - which technically, he did.
"Dinner's ready" he said simply, already halfway turned to leave before pausing. "You coming or are you two planning to sit here and stare at each other all night?"
