The night was dark. The figure was hunched over. Arms wrapped around their midsection, they shuffled forward. Every few steps a soft groan of pain escaped them. The light was just up ahead. If they could make it there....

Squealing tires rounded the corner. The figure ducked deeper inside the shadows. The car roared past them. It screamed around another corner. The figure waited, hiding in the darkest part of the path. No other sound. Nothing. It shuffled out of the dark. Moving on, it slowly made its way down the walk. The light spilled over the street. This was the only business that was still open.

The figure came closer to it. The head lifted slightly, looking inside. It groaned. The pain piercing it. Then, their eyes landed on something inside. One hand dropped from its stomach. Blood dripped onto their shoe. It reached toward something inside the light.

"Hey, are you ok?" A voice asked, a moment before the figure's pain filled mind registered the tinkling of the chimes.

"Eren." The word came out only a little above a whisper.

The figure's knees bent. Before they touched the ground, bruised arms caught them. The figure sighed. Dark blue eyes met those aqua green ones.

"Found you." The whisper came out as the figure slumped in the boy's arms.

"What happened?" Eren cooed. He lifted the body into his arms.

Turning his back on the café, he adjusted the pack on his back. He began to walk away. Three people suddenly blocked the path ahead. Eren stopped. He looked over those before him. The tall blonde held his hands out, palms toward Eren. His blue eyes were scrunched in worry. The auburn haired one reached toward the injured body in his arms. Eren flinched backward.

That was when the last one stepped forward. The smallest of them all. Eren eyed the man. He didn't trust him. There was something about the way he moved.... Eren liked it. Liked him. But that made him even more wary of the small dark haired male.

"Eren, you're friend is hurt." Levi stated.

Eren had asked his name that morning, having told them his name only last night. He eyed them now. They had been pestering him all day.

"I know." Eren spoke slowly.

"We can help him." Levi insisted.

"Look, Hange is a doctor." He explained.

"Yeah right. Why is a doctor working in a bakery?" Eren demanded.

He could feel the warm hot blood of the body in his arms spilling onto his stomach. He tried to use his own body to staunch the flow.

"You know why." This came from the tall blond.

"You've known since the first time you walked through those doors." Erwin pointed behind Eren.

"He is like us." He pointed to the wounded body in Eren's arms.

"That doesn't mean I can trust you! Not with him." Eren growled.
