"What if I reject you here and now? Will you stop this act?"

My world crashed. Does she truly intend to reject me? I felt my pride wounded but I didn't show it.

"Correction it is not an act. Even if you reject me a hundred or thousand times, I'll still pursue you. That's just how deep I am."

"If that's all then leave." She uttered and points at the door. I followed her orders and just when I was about to open the door, I heard her say.

"I'm telling you this in advance but you will lose to him. Don't get your hopes up." Who's him? Is she referring to the new head of their family? But why should I be afraid of him? Is he truly strong? Come to think of it I don't have any intel about any of them. But if she is warning that must mean she already know my capabilities as a fighter.

"Do you not trust my capabilities?" I looked back and asked her.

"He will surely crush you. I'm sure of it." Ha. This woman truly does not trust me. But I'll show her what I'm truly made of. I admit losing just one fight in my whole life and it was a fight with a masked man whose codename was "Demise" but that's all to it. I swear on my life that was my first and last defeat.

"We'll see about that." I just answered and left her house. When I was outside as I expected Harriette was already there with some of our talented agents.

"About time you show up." She stated. "I was about to order them to bomb the place."

I glared at her. "I'd rather you don't do that unless you want to be on my badside." She just chuckled and opened the passenger seat.

"Your mother ordered me that I take you home. Should I obey her?" Damn it. One problem after another. Just when am I going to rest?

"Just do as she said. Eímai kourasménos." When I got in she closed the door and signalled the agents she brought to follow us and got on the driver seat.

"Normally I'd let you drive but it seems like you're in no condition to do that." She was right. I'm in no condition to drive or even talk with my mother. But I guess it's finally time I talk to her after that incident. I have so many questions that needs her answer after all.

The sun was already setting when we arrived at our family house. I was greeted by our servants as soon as I got out and was informed that my mother was in her study. So, I made my way to her.

I knocked on the door twice to inform her of my arrival. When I heard her low whisper telling me to come in I entered her study. One thing I noticed is that unlike what I was expecting that she'll be in ruins and her study would be in chaos it was the opposite. Her study was well-arranged and she was wearing a bright smile on her face.

"How have you been, my dear daughter?" She asked in a calming voice as if she knew what misfortunes had befalled me. My mother truly is a woman worthy of my respect.

I smiled at her not wanting to show my vulnerable side.

"I am doing fine. What about you? How have you been after you and Dad filed your divorce papers?" I asked her straight forward. She may be smiling at me right now to reassure me that she's alright but I knew she isn't. People often pointed out that I have the body frame of my father, the faces of the both of them, and everything else was similar to my mother. In which I can agree. My mother is a tough nut to crack and always gives off that dominant vibes which makes me admire her even more.

"As you can see I'm doing fine."

"Liar. I know you Mom. You can't fool me."

Her smile faded as soon as she knew that I saw through her facade.

"This was a choice made by the both of us. If setting your father free will make him the happiest man alive then I'm willing to sacrifice my happiness for him." I knew it. In the end she did that for my father's sake. To her my happiness and my father's happiness are on the top of her priorities. She'll do everything to make us happy even if that means giving up hers.

"I'm not liking the look on your face Sky," She said her face having that small smile. "The fault is not with you or your father. This is just who I am. And well I only have you now. That means you'll have my full attention."

"Don't joke around Mom." She just chuckled at me

"So how have you been?"

I sighed and said. "Terrible."

"I see I'm sorry for imposing such burdens at you." She looked at me and I clearly noticed her regret in her eyes. "Your father was right I shouldn't have accepted that position when I was young. But I guess I was a bit reckless back then. Now you have to carry on the burden for me."

"I'm fine Mom. I could choose to abandon it but, something is telling me that I shouldn't not now I guess."

"I heard you were invited by the Vollerei's upcoming tournament." That caught my attention. How did she know? I thought it was a secluded information so how?
"Don't look at me like that. I may be retired but I still have my way of getting information I want. Especially if that includes you."

I smiled at her. "I guess you're right."

"So? Did you accept the challenge?"

"I did." I simply answered. Then it hit me. My mother is one of the five beasts of the underworld. That means she must know a thing or two about what happened in the Vollerei doesn't she?

"I know that look Sky. Don't you want it better to explore that information yourself?" She was right. I prefer to know the information first hand but, something in me wants to beg her for information.

"The clue I can give you is that they're strong. But I think you're equal. It seems like you two are a pair if you ask me."

"Have you met him already?"

She only gave me a meaningful smile and stood in front of me as she cupped my face. "Don't overdo yourself, my child. I was going to tell you to refuse the fight but I know that look. It reminds me of my younger self. And I know instantly that I'll just have to watch you in that battle. I'm always proud of you child." I felt tears running down my cheeks and her fingers wiping it. I thought I had forgotten this feeling, but to her I guess I'm still soft to it all.

"Don't cry my black raven. I'll always be cheering for you." That night I cried a lot in her arms.
