Sara, still caught up in the moment from her time with Shubman, was startled when she heard her father's voice from downstairs. "Baccha, can you come down for a second?"
She took a deep breath, smoothing her clothes and mentally preparing herself. As she made her way down the stairs, she saw her father, Sachin, sitting at the dining table with Anjali, both of them wearing soft, expectant expressions.
"Baccha," Sachin began as soon as she reached them, "we were thinking about the engagement between you and Shubman."
Sara blinked, taken aback by the suddenness of the suggestion. Her mind raced as she tried to process her father's words. "Engagement?" she repeated, her voice almost hesitant.
Sachin nodded. "Yes, baccha. We think it's the right time. You've spent some time with Shubman now, and we believe it's time to take the next step. Of course, we'll only proceed if you're ready."
Anjali chimed in softly, her voice reassuring. "Beta, there's no pressure. We just feel that Shubman is a wonderful match for you, and both families are really excited about it. But the decision is yours."
Sara's heart pounded in her chest. The thought of getting engaged so soon left her feeling a mixture of excitement and uncertainty. She had started to like Shubman, there was no denying that, but everything still felt so new. Could she take that leap so soon?
She glanced at her father, then her mother, both waiting patiently for her response. Taking a deep breath, she finally spoke. "I... I don't know, Papa. It's just... everything's happening so fast."
Sachin smiled warmly, reaching out to pat her hand. "I understand, beta. It's a big step, but you don't have to decide right away. Think about it, talk to Shubman. We're just here to support you, no matter what you decide."
Sara nodded, feeling the weight of the decision but also comforted by her parents' understanding. "Okay, I'll talk to Shubman and see how we both feel about it."
Anjali smiled and added, "That's all we ask, beta. Take your time."
As Sara excused herself and walked back to her room, her mind was filled with thoughts of Shubman, the moments they'd shared, and the idea of what an engagement could mean for them. It was a lot to take in, but as she picked up her phone to text Shubman, a small smile crept onto her face. Maybe this was the beginning of something real.
Sara sat on her bed, her heart still racing after the conversation with her parents. She picked up her phone, hesitating for a moment before dialing Shubman's number. After a few rings, his familiar voice answered.
"Hey, Sara! Everything okay?" he asked, his tone light but with a hint of concern.
"Hey," Sara started, her voice softer than usual. "I just talked to Papa... they want us to get engaged soon."
There was a brief pause on the other end before Shubman replied, "Yeah, I know. My parents spoke to me about it too."
Sara bit her lip. "What did you tell them?"
