Sara sat in the hospital's small break room, her head resting against the chair as she finally took a moment to breathe after a long morning of rounds. Her phone buzzed, and she smiled softly when she saw the message light up the screen.
Shubman: Hey wifey.
Her heart fluttered at the word "wifey." It was still new, still surreal. She couldn't help but smile wider as she quickly typed a response.
Sara: Hey hubby. Missing me already?
She hit send and imagined Shubman's smile on the other end. Within seconds, her phone buzzed again.
Shubman: Of course! The house feels empty without you. What time are you coming back?
Sara glanced at the clock. It would still be a few hours before her shift ended. She felt a twinge of guilt for leaving so soon after their wedding. The ceremony and rituals were barely over, and here she was, back to work. But she knew how important her job was, and thankfully, Shubman understood.
Sara: A couple more hours, but I'll be back before dinner. You surviving without me?
Shubman's response was instant.
Shubman: Barely. Buaji is still grumpy from this morning. But don't worry, I'll handle it.
Sara sighed, her heart sinking slightly at the mention of Vidhya, Shubman's aunt, who had caused quite a scene earlier. But she knew Shubman had her back, and that was enough.
Sara: I'm sorry about that... Are you okay?
Shubman: Don't worry about me. I'm more worried about you. You good?
Sara: Always better after hearing from you. 😘
Sara couldn't help but smile, feeling the warmth of his words wash over her. He had a way of making her feel loved and protected, even from miles away.
Just then, a knock on the break room door startled her. One of the nurses peeked in, "Dr. Sara, there's an emergency patient coming in. We'll need you in the ER."
Sara nodded, her focus shifting. She quickly typed a final message to Shubman.
Sara: Duty calls. I'll see you soon, love.
Shubman: Can't wait. Be safe, wifey.
She pocketed her phone, her heart full as she rushed back to the ER, feeling reassured and grounded knowing Shubman was waiting for her at home.
Hours later, as she finished her shift and made her way out of the hospital, her phone buzzed once again.
Shubman: I'm picking you up. Be there in 5.
Sara's eyes widened in surprise. She hadn't expected him to come, especially after all that had happened in the morning. She hurried outside, and just as she stepped out into the cool evening air, she saw Shubman's car pulling up in front of the hospital.
He got out, a wide smile spreading across his face as soon as he saw her. "Hey, wifey," he said, pulling her into a hug.
Sara melted into his embrace, feeling the weight of the day lift off her shoulders. "Hey, hubby," she whispered, resting her head on his chest.
"Missed you," Shubman murmured, pressing a soft kiss on her forehead.
"I missed you too," Sara replied, looking up at him. "Thanks for coming to get me."
Shubman grinned. "I figured we could grab something to eat on the way back. Maybe some ice cream?" he suggested, knowing her weakness for sweet treats.
Sara's eyes lit up. "Ice cream sounds perfect."
As they got into the car and drove off, the tension of the day seemed to fade away. They laughed, talked about the funny moments from the pooja earlier, and just enjoyed the simplicity of being together.
By the time they reached home, the evening had turned into night, and the house was quiet. Shubman grabbed Sara's hand as they walked inside, leading her upstairs to their room.
"Buaji's asleep, thank God," he whispered, grinning mischievously.
Sara giggled softly as she kicked off her shoes and sat down on the bed. "Good. I don't think I'm ready for round two with her today."
Shubman joined her, sitting close and wrapping his arm around her. "You don't have to worry about her. I've got your back, always."
Sara smiled, feeling the truth of his words settle in her heart. She leaned in, pressing her lips softly to his, the kiss lingering as they soaked in the quiet moment together.
It was in moments like these that Sara realized she wasn't just married; she had found her partner for life, someone who would always stand by her, no matter what.
As they finally broke apart, Sara whispered, "I'm really happy I married you, Shub."
He smiled back, his eyes warm with affection. "And I'm the luckiest guy to have you, Sara."
They lay back, hand in hand, ready to face whatever the world threw at them, as long as they were together.
