Shubman tried to shift slightly, attempting to ease himself out of Sara's grip, but she tightened her hold even more, her face buried against his chest. He sighed, glancing at the clock again. Time was slipping away, and he had to leave for practice soon. But Sara, completely unaware of his schedule, seemed determined to keep him in bed.
"Sara, I need to go," he whispered, brushing his fingers gently through her hair.
She mumbled something incoherent, still half asleep, her grip tightening even more. Shubman couldn't help but smile, despite the urgency. It was moments like these that made him want to stay, no matter how important his practice was.
"Sara, come on, I'm running late," he said softly, his lips brushing her forehead as he tried to gently nudge her awake.
"Noooo," she groaned, her voice sleepy and stubborn. "Five more minutes..."
"You said that ten minutes ago," Shubman chuckled, though his eyes darted back to the clock anxiously.
Sara finally opened one eye, still clinging to him. "Can't you skip today? Just stay with me..." She pouted, her sleepy, innocent face making it hard for Shubman to say no.
"You know I can't skip practice," Shubman replied gently. "Coach will kill me. And then you won't have me to hug anymore."
Sara sighed dramatically, loosening her hold just a little but still not letting go completely. "But I don't want to let you go yet," she whined softly, her arms still draped around him lazily.
Shubman chuckled again, leaning down to kiss her lightly on the forehead. "How about this... I'll be back before you even realize I'm gone. Then you can hold me all you want."
"Hmm... fine," she murmured, clearly not fully convinced but starting to relent. "But don't be too long."
"I'll be as fast as I can," he promised, gently prying himself free from her grasp and slipping out of bed. As he stood, he ruffled her hair affectionately, watching as she snuggled deeper into the covers.
He quickly threw on his training gear, grabbing his cricket bag and casting one more glance at her before heading to the door.
"Don't forget," she called out sleepily, her voice muffled by the pillow, "I get to hug you the moment you walk through that door."
Shubman grinned, shaking his head as he opened the door. "I won't forget, promise. See you later, love."
With that, he stepped out, closing the door quietly behind him.
Later that evening, Shubman returned from practice, tired but happy to be back home. The moment he entered the house, he was greeted by Sara standing at the entrance with her arms crossed, clearly ready to claim her promised hug.
"You're late," she said with mock seriousness, though a smile played at her lips.
Shubman dropped his bag and spread his arms. "I know, I know. Come here."
