Chapter 7: Stepping Forward

That evening, Jackson led me to a cozy café.

"My friends are waiting," he said.

Nerves fluttered in my stomach.

Meeting his friends?

A big step.

But I trusted Jackson.

We entered the café, and Jackson's friends waved.

A group of five, smiling and welcoming.

"Guys, this is Emily," Jackson announced.

They greeted me warmly.

Sarah, Mike, Alex, Rachel, and Chris.

We chatted, laughed, and shared stories.

Jackson's hand held mine.

Comforting.

Supportive.

His friends accepted me easily.

No judgment.

No pressure.

As the night unfolded, I felt at home.

Part of their circle.

Jackson's circle.

After coffee, we strolled along the riverbank.

The city lights twinkled.

Jackson's friends paired off.

Leaving us alone.

Jackson turned to me.

"Thanks for tonight," he said.

"Thanks for introducing me," I replied.

Jackson's eyes sparkled.

"They love you."

I smiled.

"They're great."

Jackson's arms wrapped around me.

"Honestly?" he whispered.

"Yes?"

"I'm really happy."

My heart swelled.

"Me too."

Our lips met under the stars.

A soft, gentle kiss.

As we parted, Jackson smiled.

"Want to meet my family?"

My heart skipped a beat.

"Your family?"

Jackson nodded.

"Next weekend."

I hesitated.

Scared.

But Jackson's eyes reassured me.

"Trust me," he whispered.

I nodded.

"Okay."

Jackson's grin spread.

"I'll pick you up Saturday."

............

Saturday arrived, and Jackson picked me up.
