Brunch

We entered the Custard Bursts Cafe, the smell of the different flavors filling the air.

I breathed it in and sighed. It smelled so good!

My father went straight to the counter to order the custard bursts.

Five butterscotch custard bursts, three caramel ones, and three chocolate mint ones.

My favorite was butterscotch.

My mother and I went to a table that was right next to the bakery room so I could smell them being baked.

I loved this cafe.

He also ordered three mooncakes and two fluffcreams as well.

After that, my father paid for the food.

We sat there as I scrolled on my Imparter to see if I had any new messages.

Heda -- 17 missed calls.

Wow.

"Can I go to the toilet?" I asked, stuffing my Imparter in my pocket.

"Yes, of course," said my father.

I nodded and hurried to the toilet across the cafe.

I went into the stall and locked the door before taking out my Imparter.

I called back Heda and turned the volume down low.

"What is it?" I whispered when she accepted the call.

"What are you doing?" she whispered frantically.

"Chill, Heda! Why do you sound so worried?"

"You haven't answered 17 of my calls!"

"I'm at brunch in Atlantis okay?"

"You didn't hear your Imparter buzz?"

"It must be on Do Not Disturb."

She groaned. "Okay, never mind. I just thought something had happened."

"Okay, bye."

I hung up and rolled my eyes.

Oh my Councillor, she had me worried there!

I went out of the stall and back to our table.

Some of our food had already arrived. The smell wafted through the air and into my nose.

"That smells so good!" I said, ignoring the looks people gave me. Some even nodded in agreement.

I took a Butterscotch Custard Burst and sniffed it.

Wow. That was awesome.

I took a huge bite out of it as my parents laughed and ate as well.

"Seriously, thank you!"

"Gotta have something special for manifesting, right?"

Geez mother. Hope nobody heard that.

"You've manifested?" called another table. "How old are you?"

I shot my mother a look and she shrugged.

"No I just look younger than I actually am!"

The elf nodded slowly as if to say Ohhhhh.

"Mother you're basically announcing it to the entire world!"

"Don't you want the entire world to know?"

"Adena," said my father. "Respect her privacy."

My mom rolled her eyes. "It's a good thing!"

I didn't reply but in my mind I thought Just in case it isn't.

I didn't want anyone to know until I was sure it didn't make some bad things happen.

Wait didn't I beat Fitz Vacker's record? What if he hated me? Then his fangirls would hate me too!

I brushed off the thought that caused my stomach to churn.

I concentrated on eating my delicious dessert brunch.

Soon the mooncakes arrived as well. Somebody was floating it over with steady telekinesis.

Once it settled down I excitedly cut a slice.

"You're not eating the whole thing?" asked my father.

I shook my head. "I'm kind of full and we can save this for later!"

"You mean...leftovers?" my mother frowned.

"Yeah but...tasty leftovers!"

"Alright just...eat some now," sighed my mother.

I nodded and quickly began wolfing it down until I was full.

When I had finished, there was two thirds of the mooncake left.

I scrolled on my Imparter as my parents continued eating.

Heda: How's brunch?

I started typing but also saw Heda: typing...

I quickly deleted my message but so did she.

Ignoring the virtual embarrassment, I started re-typing the message but so did she.

Never mind that. I told myself and clicked Send.

You: Fine.

Heda: OMC the embarrassment I felt after we both deleted our message and re-typed it at the same time

You: Yeah right?

Heda: What'd you eat for brunch?

You: Mainly custard bursts cuz we're at Custard Bursts Cafe. A fluffcream and half a mooncake.

Heda: Sounds amazing.

You: Yeah but my mother just told everybody I manifested

Heda: Huh? wait what?

You: Yep not directly but I deflected it with a "I just look younger than my age"

Heda: Smart I guess.

"Evela, time to leave!" said my mother, already standing at the door.

"We called your name but you didn't reply." said my father.

"One second!"

You: Yeah I guess. Have to leave now Cya!

I switched off my Imparter and headed to my parents.

"Who were you talking to?" asked my mother as we walked down the streets to the main canal.

"Heda."

We arrived at the main canal and summoned a eurypterid carriage.
