gabrielle's pov
i don't really know what i expected when scott said they were getting food, i assumed breakfast but now we were eating taco bell at ten in the morning. i wasn't complaining though, food is food.
i had the sense that neither of them really knew what to do with me here, and i didn't really know what to do either. i had no idea what my place was. i just hoped i was safe here.
"can i ask you guys a favour?" i spoke up, putting my crunchwrap down.
"anything" scott said.
"don't think of me like some poor shelter dog please, im not merrick's girlfriend anymore, i'm just gabrielle, we can start from there?" i asked. i just wanted a clean slate.
"sure gab, consider yourself rebirthed as g59" scott said, i smiled.
"i'm gonna murk that kid next time i see him. don't worry gabi, he's nothing to you he's nothing to us. he'll be nobody's problem soon" ruby said, sort of ambiguously.
"i have some things i have to take care of, speaking of" he said, getting up from the table.
he reached into a cabinet, tucking not one but two guns into his pants, pulling a camo print mask over his head.
i realized i didn't know exactly what it is these guys did.
"what do you and ruby like, do?" i asked, "i don't really know much about either of you" i said.
"let's go sit, i'll tell you" scott said, taking my hand to escort me to the couch.
"ruby and i are cousins, if you didn't know. we started out selling drugs and robbing people to support our addictions. we've both been sober for a few years now. it was hurting the business. but now we've got our guys, mostly involved in drug and weapons trade and sales. we aren't out in there streets like we used to be, we're just getting our money. dirty work gets done for us, however i will take great responsibility in getting my hands dirty with merrick"
scott gave me the synopsis of him and ruby. i knew i shouldn't get tangled up with another gangster, it obviously didn't turn out well the first time. scott was different though, under the cold outer shell he was just a regular guy, a really nice, caring guy.
"what about you?" he asked, "what about me?" i questioned back.
"what's there to know about you?" he asked. i sat silent, unable to come up with any words. my entire identity had become merrick's girlfriend although usually it was bitch, not girlfriend.
"before he fucked your life up" he prompted.
"i don't know, i didn't really do a whole lot. i got caught up in a bad crowd pretty young, in high school, and then i ended up with merrick. i don't know, i guess i liked to draw and stuff when i was a kid, it's been years though" i shrugged.
he nodded. "you on anything right now?" he asked
"no. not really. mostly just socially. sometimes with merrick"
"good, stay off that shit. you're too pretty to ruin yourself like that" he said
pretty?
i blushed.
"my ex fiancée overdosed. just not worth it" he said
ex fiancée?
"oh, sorry to hear that" i told him. i didn't realized he'd been engaged.
"it was after i left her. she'd been cheating on me for months, but still, damn, can happen just like that" he shrugged
"still, sorry to hear about that too" i told him.
i felt like a bitch, obviously death was tragic but it made me feel better it happened after they'd broken up?
"wanna watch a movie or something?" he asked, "uh, yeah sure" i agreed.
"might as well settle in" he winked, i couldn't quite read him. was he flirting with me?
"come, the good tv is in my room" he said, grabbing my hand and leading me towards the staircase.
okay, what was going on? i wasn't complaining though. he was a good looking guy
i wasn't expecting the grandiosity of his bedroom, compared to the plain white one i had been staying in.
he had a king size bed in the middle of the room. silk sheets and all. he had a full matching walnut furniture set. the walls were dark red and adorned by various pieces of art and display swords. a large tv and sound system was mounted on the wall.
i was unphased by the rifles leaning in the corner of the room.
"it's nice in here" i said, looking around "you sound surprised" he said
"men, no offence, just typically, are gross" i laughed
"not me sweetheart" he said, climbing onto his bed.
i could feel my heartbeat intensify anytime he called me that.
"get comfy" he said , patting the other side of the bed.
i sat stiffly on the other side of the bed, "what did you wanna watch?" he asked
"you pick, your house" i told him, i didn't want that responsibility
"hmm, what's on here. ruby was watching star wars last, let's do that" he said, clicking on the movie in recently played.
"do you want a blanket or something gab?" he asked, noticing my goosebumps.
"yeah, sure, thanks" i accepted the offer.
he pulled a big fluffy blanket from the floor beside his bed. it was basically the size of the bed, he tossed it over both of us.
the chill of the air conditioned room drew me instinctively closer to scott, inch by inch.
"come here" he said, he moved my leg over his. i laid comfortably on his chest. his hand rested in the dip of my waist, keeping me close to him.
i could tell that he thought out each movement before he touched me, scared he was going to scare me. i knew he wasn't going to hurt me though.
"i'm glad you're here gab" he said, carefully brushing his fingers through my hair.
"so am i" i said.
