i watched scott play candy crush on his phone while i just laid there, my bare bodies wrapped up in the thick white duvet like i was engulfed in a cloud.
"hey" i got his attention, "yeah?" he responded, raising an eyebrow at me without ever actually looking away from his game.
"do you think we'd still be able to go get my stuff today?" i asked, reminding him of the conversation that had led to the previous events
"sure thing sweetheart" he replied, biting his bottom lip in concentration.
i really had nothing here. the two outfits from his ex were only gonna work so long, plus i just hated the idea of it. i was also sick of sharing toiletries. i smell like a high school boys locker room.
"do you have anything i can wear out?" i asked him, considering i really had no other options, especially without doing laundry.
i heard his phone chime, signalling he'd successfully passed whatever level he was working on. he clicked the screen off, devoting his full attention back to me.
"well, how presentable do you need to be? it's all going to be huge on you" he said, getting up to look inside of his massive closet.
he tossed me a very large camo t shirt. not military camo but the kind hunters wore, that looked like bushes or whatever. he held up a pair of plain black sweatpants, looked at me, looked at the pants again and shook his head.
"you could wrap these around you three times" he sighed, i could see the gears turning in his head.
"these will have to do for now" he decided, tossing be a pair of plain black boxers to go with the t shirt instead. i shrugged, accepting anything that would remotely work.
i untangled myself from the blankets, carelessly prancing my naked body around the room. i could feel scott's eyes on me. there was a raw chemistry between us that was undeniable since the moment we came into contact with one another, despite my initial fear.
i gave his eyes a rest, throwing the large t shirt over my head and rolling the waist band on his boxers until they looked almost like normal shorts.
he put on basically the opposite outfit to me, an old tattered black tshirt and camo cargo pants. he pulled a black shiesty over his head, leaving it only around his neck for now.
there was a drawer that wasn't like the others, he entered a passcode into the keypad in order for it to open. i swallowed a the nervous lump in my throat as i watched him pull out a pistol and tuck it into the back of his pants
for a while i had almost forgotten how i ended up here. that my ex boyfriend was a crazy, dangerous gangster which ended up with me being kidnapped, for lack of a better word, by two other crazy, dangerous gangsters. behind his own four walls scott was such a kind, soft person i almost forgot the reality of his job.
the difference though, was that merrick could never turn it off behind closed doors. he was always an asshole, and constantly on edge.
scott, and ruby too, were just so normal. it was hard to imagine them doing any of the things i knew and had heard they were capable of.
"ready darlin'?" he asked, his new orleans accent dropping the g off of the word. "ready as i can be" i said, trying to make a few last adjustments in the mirror to at least feel presentable.
i followed him through the house to the connected garage where a black range rover was now parked. "what happened to the other car?" i asked him. noticing this was obviously not the same vehicle he had me in before.
