Dongmin was lying on his bed, casually scrolling through his phone and texting his friends, feeling a rare sense of peace. That peace, however, was abruptly interrupted when Woonhak popped up in his messages again.
(11:52 PM)
Woonhak: Sooooooo…
Dongmin: What?
Woonhak: What do you think about dreams?
Dongmin: What is it with you and these random questions?
Woonhak: I’m a deep thinker, remember? And I’m bored. Help me out here.
Dongmin: Have you considered not texting me?
Woonhak: Pffft, if I did that you’d miss me. I can't do that! So, what do you think about dreams?
Dongmin: I think they’re just your brain throwing out random nonsense while you sleep. Like you, but all the time.
Woonhak: HA! You’re funny when you try, you know. Anyway, I had this wild dream last night where I was chasing a giant Tteokbokki through a forest.
Dongmin:…Of course, you did.
Woonhak: No, seriously! It was huge. Like, human-sized. And I was running after it with chopsticks, and it kept dodging me. I woke up starving.
Dongmin: You’re beyond help.
Woonhak: You say that, but you’re still replying.
Dongmin: Out of morbid curiosity.
Woonhak: I’m irresistible, what can I say?
Dongmin: More like a persistent headache.
Woonhak: Same thing, right? 😎
There was a short pause before Woonhak sent another message.
Woonhak: Do you ever get dumped in your dreams?
Dongmin: I don’t… have time for whatever weird tangent you’re about to go on.
Woonhak: Too late! So, I got dumped. Again. In my dream this time.
Dongmin: And this concerns me… why?
Woonhak: Because you’re my emotional support friend now. Duh.
Dongmin: I’m really not.
Woonhak: 😭😭 It was so sad though! She was all like, “Woonhak, you’re too good for me” and then she left me for a cactus. A cactus, Taesan!
Dongmin: You’re telling me you got dumped for a plant?
Woonhak: Exactly! It’s like a metaphor for my life. Do you ever get dumped in dreams?
Dongmin: I don’t have time for people in real life, let alone dream ones.
Woonhak: Wait, wait— so you’re saying you’ve never had a crush or a relationship?
Dongmin: Not your business.
Woonhak: So sus! That means you totally have someone. Is that why you ignore me sometimes??
Dongmin: If I was ignoring you, I wouldn’t be replying at all.
Woonhak: Ah, so you don’t have anyone. Single like me, huh?
Dongmin: I didn’t say that.
Woonhak: You didn’t have to. ;)
Dongmin: Stop sending that face.
Woonhak: You’re single and you know it, buddy. Why else would you be texting me all the time?
Dongmin: You’re the one texting me. If I was in a relationship, I’d block you just to avoid explaining why I’m dealing with an idiot.
Woonhak: Aww, you think about me that much? So sweet. 🥲🫶
Dongmin: I literally don’t.
Woonhak: Sooo… you’re definitely single then. What’s your type?
Dongmin: I’m not doing this.
Woonhak: What if I’m your type?
Dongmin: You’re delusional. And I'm not into guys.
Woonhak: I’m just saying, you’re always texting me back. There’s something there. ;)
Dongmin: It’s called pity.
Woonhak: LOL, you’re so into me. You want to know how someone can have this much charm. 😎
Dongmin: If charm means relentless stupidity, then sure.
Woonhak: Hey, relentless stupidity is endearing in some cultures!
Dongmin: Not this one.
Woonhak: Okay, serious question now, If we did meet, would you buy me coffee?
Dongmin: No.
Woonhak: Wow. Heartless. What if I bought you coffee?
Dongmin: Still no.
Woonhak: You’re really hard to get, huh? I like a challenge.
Dongmin: You’re about to face the challenge of getting blocked.
Woonhak: Nah, you say that everyday, but you actually like having me around. I’m the only one who spices up your boring life. Your day would be dull without my random thoughts and flirting.
Dongmin: You’re flirting? I thought you were just malfunctioning.
Woonhak: See? You even find my flirting funny. It’s working.
Dongmin: This is painful.
Woonhak: Painfully adorable. You just don’t know it yet.
Dongmin stared at his phone, questioning why he hadn’t blocked Woonhak yet. WHY?! Some part of him, however, couldn’t stop reading these ridiculous texts.
Dongmin: You need a therapist.
Woonhak: I have one! But now I have you, too. 💕
Dongmin: I’ll send them my condolences.
There was another brief pause before Woonhak sent another message, changing the topic abruptly.
Woonhak: Anyway, I’m going on a date tomorrow.
Dongmin: Wait, what?
Woonhak: Yeah, I don’t know her yet, but I hope she’s not like the girl in my dream. Imagine getting dumped for a cactus in real life.
Dongmin: That might actually happen to you.
Woonhak: Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence.
Dongmin: Good luck with your cactus lady.
Woonhak: You're lucky you're cute, Taesan, or I'd actually be offended.
Dongmin rolled his eyes, smirking at his screen.
Dongmin: Go to sleep, Woonhak.
Woonhak: Fine, fine. I’ll spare you for tonight. But remember, you're always on my mind. ;)
Dongmin: I regret everything.
Woonhak: Goodnight, my emotional support bestie. 🫶
With that, Dongmin tossed his phone aside, still shaking his head at the absurd conversation.
