CHAPTER FIFTEEN: THE PRINCE OF DIFANCE
Jaeyun sat in the dimly lit room, his wrists still red from the tight chains Heeseung had used to bind him after their confrontation. The oppressive weight of Heeseung’s words echoed in his mind, the reminder that he could never escape. Every moment was suffocating. The walls seemed to close in on him as the reality of his situation sank deeper into his bones.
Heeseung had left him alone for now, but Jaeyun knew it wouldn’t last. The man was always watching, always lurking. Heeseung’s presence was like a dark cloud that hung over everything, reminding Jaeyun that he was nothing more than a possession.
The door creaked open, and Jaeyun flinched, his heart racing as Heeseung stepped inside. His face was as cold as ever, though there was something darker in his eyes—a dangerous glint that made Jaeyun’s skin crawl.
Without a word, Heeseung walked over to where Jaeyun was sitting, his footsteps heavy with purpose. He reached out, his fingers gently brushing against Jaeyun’s face, but the touch was far from kind. It was possessive, a reminder of who was in control.
“You disobeyed me,” Heeseung said softly, though the threat in his voice was unmistakable.
Jaeyun swallowed hard, trying to hold back the fear that threatened to consume him. “I-I just wanted some air,” he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t mean—”
“You didn’t mean to defy me?” Heeseung interrupted, his grip on Jaeyun’s chin tightening. “You think I don’t know what you’re trying to do? You think I didn’t see the way you and Sunghoon were looking at each other?”
Jaeyun’s eyes widened in surprise. Heeseung’s jealousy, his paranoia—it was suffocating. But Jaeyun hadn’t even considered Sunghoon in that way. Sunghoon had been kind to him, yes, but he was just trying to help. He wasn’t looking for more than that.
“Heeseung, it’s not what you think—” Jaeyun began, but Heeseung cut him off with a sharp laugh.
“I know exactly what’s going on,” Heeseung hissed, his face inches from Jaeyun’s. “You’re trying to get away from me. You think Sunghoon can help you, don’t you? You think he’s your way out.”
Jaeyun’s heart raced. He didn’t know how to respond, how to convince Heeseung that there was nothing between him and Sunghoon. But he knew it didn’t matter. Heeseung was too far gone, too consumed by his obsession.
Before Jaeyun could say anything else, Heeseung’s phone buzzed in his pocket, pulling him out of his dangerous spiral. He straightened, glaring down at Jaeyun one last time before pulling his phone out. His expression darkened even more as he read the message.
“Stay here,” Heeseung ordered, his voice low and cold. “Don’t even think about trying to leave.”
With that, he turned and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him. Jaeyun flinched at the sound, his heart still pounding in his chest.
---
Meanwhile, in the shadows of the mansion, Sunghoon paced back and forth, his mind racing with frustration and anger. He had known Heeseung’s temper was bad, but seeing his cousin’s possessive obsession up close had made things crystal clear—Heeseung wasn’t going to let Jaeyun go. Ever.
But Sunghoon wasn’t going to stand by and let his cousin destroy Jaeyun’s life. He had to do something, even if it meant risking his position in the mafia, even if it meant crossing Heeseung. Sunghoon was determined to free Jaeyun from Heeseung’s clutches, even if it put his own life in danger.
Sunghoon’s phone buzzed, and he quickly pulled it out, glancing at the message.
“Where are you?” the text from Heeseung read.
Sunghoon’s blood ran cold. Heeseung was already looking for him, probably suspecting that he was planning something. Sunghoon knew Heeseung well enough to know that if he found out about his intentions, there would be no mercy.
But there was no turning back now.
---
Heeseung stormed down the hallway, his jaw clenched in anger as he made his way toward Sunghoon’s quarters. His mind was racing with suspicion and paranoia. He had seen the look in Jaeyun’s eyes when he had been with Sunghoon. He had seen the way Sunghoon tried to shield Jaeyun, to protect him. It infuriated him.
No one was going to take Jaeyun from him. No one.
Heeseung barged into Sunghoon’s room without knocking, his eyes blazing with anger. Sunghoon was sitting at his desk, his back turned to the door, but he didn’t flinch when Heeseung entered. He knew this confrontation was coming.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Heeseung growled, slamming the door behind him. “You think you can just take him out without telling me?”
Sunghoon slowly turned around, his expression calm despite the storm brewing in Heeseung’s eyes. “He needed some fresh air, Heeseung. You’re suffocating him.”
Heeseung’s hands clenched into fists at his sides, his rage bubbling to the surface. “I don’t need you to tell me how to take care of him. He’s mine. And you had no right to take him out.”
Sunghoon stood up, facing Heeseung head-on. “You’re not taking care of him. You’re imprisoning him. He’s terrified of you, Heeseung.”
Heeseung let out a harsh laugh, his eyes narrowing. “You think I care what you think? You think you know him better than I do?”
Sunghoon’s gaze hardened. “This isn’t love, Heeseung. It’s obsession. And it’s going to destroy you.”
Heeseung’s eyes flashed with fury, and before Sunghoon could react, Heeseung lunged at him, grabbing him by the collar and slamming him against the wall.
“You don’t know anything,” Heeseung snarled, his grip tightening on Sunghoon’s shirt. “You think you can take him from me? You think you can save him?”
Sunghoon didn’t flinch, even as Heeseung’s anger threatened to boil over. “You’re not saving him, Heeseung. You’re breaking him.”
Heeseung’s face twisted with rage, and for a moment, Sunghoon thought he might actually snap. But then, Heeseung released him, shoving him back.
“Stay out of my way, Sunghoon,” Heeseung growled, his voice low and dangerous. “Or you’ll regret it.”
Without waiting for a response, Heeseung stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him. Sunghoon stood there for a moment, catching his breath, his mind racing.
He knew this was only the beginning.
