CHAPTER TWENTY THREE: BOUND BY FEAR
Sunoo sat in the cold, dimly lit room, his wrists still bound tightly by chains that clinked with every small movement he made. His body ached all over, bruised from the beating Sunghoon had given him. But the physical pain was nothing compared to the fear slowly gripping his heart. Sunghoon had been acting strange—stranger than usual—and now, as he leaned back in his chair, his eyes never left Sunoo.
Sunoo kept his mouth shut. Whatever Sunghoon wanted, he wasn’t going to give it to him.
Sunghoon stood across the room, watching him, twirling a knife in his hand with a menacing grin. “You’re thinking about how to escape, aren’t you?” Sunghoon asked, his voice smooth, a hint of amusement in it. “But trust me, Sunoo, you’re not going anywhere. Not until I get what I want.”
Sunoo stayed silent, trying to maintain his composure. He couldn’t show fear—not now, not when Sunghoon was waiting for it.
Sunghoon walked toward him, his footsteps echoing in the quiet room. He stopped inches away from Sunoo, kneeling down to meet his eyes. “You’re strong. I’ll give you that. Most people would have broken by now.” He reached out, gently tracing the edge of the knife along Sunoo’s jawline. “But everyone has their limits. Even you.”
Sunoo’s breath hitched, but he didn’t move. He refused to let Sunghoon see how much he was trembling on the inside. The cold blade of the knife pressed against his skin, but it wasn’t the threat of violence that scared him—it was the look in Sunghoon’s eyes.
Sunghoon wasn’t just toying with him. He was fascinated, obsessed. And that made everything so much worse.
“I know why Heeseung sent you,” Sunghoon continued, his voice soft, as if he were trying to lull Sunoo into a false sense of security. “He thinks he can get rid of me. But I’ll tell you something, Sunoo. I’m not going anywhere. Not without a fight.”
Sunoo swallowed hard, forcing himself to stay calm. He had to find a way out of this. But with the chains wrapped around his wrists and Sunghoon looming over him, escape seemed impossible.
Sunghoon’s smile widened as he watched the emotions flicker across Sunoo’s face. “Heeseung doesn’t appreciate what he has. He doesn’t appreciate you.”
Sunoo frowned, his eyes narrowing. “What are you talking about?”
Sunghoon leaned in closer, his breath ghosting over Sunoo’s ear. “You’re wasted on him. He doesn’t deserve you.”
Sunoo stiffened, confusion swirling in his mind. What was Sunghoon playing at? This wasn’t the same cold, calculating man he had faced so many times before. Something had shifted, something dark.
“I’m going to keep you here, Sunoo,” Sunghoon whispered, his lips brushing against Sunoo’s skin, sending a shiver down his spine. “And you’ll learn that I’m the only one who truly understands you.”
Sunoo’s heart pounded in his chest. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Sunghoon’s words were laced with something more than just cruelty—there was possession in them, an obsession that made Sunoo’s skin crawl.
But before Sunoo could respond, a loud banging echoed through the hallway outside the room, startling both of them. Sunghoon’s expression hardened immediately, and he stood up, his eyes darkening with fury.
“Stay here,” Sunghoon ordered, though the chains ensured Sunoo had no choice.
As Sunghoon stepped out of the room, closing the door behind him, Sunoo’s mind raced. He didn’t have much time. Whoever was at the door might be his only chance at escape, but he was still chained up, with no way to break free.
Sunoo glanced around the room, desperately searching for something—anything—that could help him. But the more he struggled against the chains, the tighter they seemed to get.
He could hear faint voices from outside, but it was impossible to make out who it was. Had Heeseung come for him? Or was it one of Sunghoon’s men?
Minutes passed, feeling like hours, before the door suddenly swung open again. Sunghoon stepped back inside, looking even more furious than before.
“Looks like we have a little problem,” he said, his voice dripping with anger. “Heeseung’s men are here.”
Sunoo’s heart leaped in his chest. Heeseung had sent someone for him?
Sunghoon’s gaze locked onto Sunoo, and the dangerous smirk returned to his face. “But don’t worry, Sunoo. They won’t find you. Not here.”
With a swift motion, Sunghoon grabbed a nearby cloth and gagged Sunoo, tying it tightly around his mouth. Panic surged through Sunoo as he tried to speak, but the gag muffled any sound.
“I can’t let them take you away,” Sunghoon said, his tone disturbingly calm. “You’re mine now.”
As Sunghoon reached for the chains, tightening them even more, Sunoo’s mind raced with fear. Heeseung’s men might be here, but that didn’t mean they would find him in time.
The room darkened, and for the first time, Sunoo felt truly helpless. Sunghoon’s obsession was far more dangerous than anything he had anticipated.
