CHAPTER TWENTY TWO: CHAINED SHADOWS
Sunoo slipped silently through the dimly lit corridors of Park Sunghoon’s secret base, his heart pounding in his chest. Heeseung’s orders had been clear—kidnap Sunghoon, and bring him back. It wasn’t a request; it was a command. Sunoo had done a lot for Heeseung over the years, but this was the most dangerous mission yet.
The tension between Heeseung and Sunghoon had escalated recently, and Heeseung’s obsession with Jaeyun had only made things worse. Now, Heeseung wanted to deal with his cousin once and for all, and Sunoo had been tasked with making sure it happened.
Sunoo’s thoughts raced as he neared the large metal door that led to Sunghoon’s office. He had to be quick and precise. If he hesitated, Sunghoon would overpower him, and failure wasn’t an option. Heeseung was counting on him, and Sunoo never failed a mission.
As he quietly pushed the door open, his pulse quickened. Sunghoon sat at his desk, reading through some papers, completely unaware of Sunoo’s presence. The soft glow of the lamp illuminated Sunghoon’s sharp features, casting shadows across his face.
For a moment, Sunoo hesitated. Sunghoon wasn’t just Heeseung’s cousin; he was one of the most dangerous men Sunoo had ever faced. But he shook off the doubt and steeled his nerves. He had no choice.
Taking a deep breath, Sunoo lunged forward, aiming to incapacitate Sunghoon quickly. But before he could land a blow, Sunghoon’s hand shot out, grabbing his wrist with a vice-like grip.
“You really thought you could sneak up on me?” Sunghoon’s voice was low, filled with amusement and menace.
Sunoo’s eyes widened, and he tried to break free, but Sunghoon was faster. In an instant, Sunghoon twisted his arm, forcing Sunoo to his knees. The pain shot through his body, but Sunoo gritted his teeth, refusing to cry out.
“I knew Heeseung would send someone after me eventually,” Sunghoon continued, his voice dripping with contempt. “But I didn’t expect him to send you.”
With a surge of strength, Sunoo managed to pull his arm free and land a punch on Sunghoon’s jaw, sending him stumbling back. Sunoo got to his feet, ready for a fight. “I don’t care what you think, Sunghoon,” he spat. “I’m just here to finish the job.”
Sunghoon wiped the blood from his lip, his eyes darkening with rage. “You’re going to regret that.”
Before Sunoo could react, Sunghoon charged at him, slamming him against the wall with brutal force. The impact knocked the wind out of Sunoo, but he fought back, landing another hit to Sunghoon’s side. The two men grappled with each other, exchanging blows, their movements fast and vicious.
Sunghoon’s strength was overwhelming, and despite Sunoo’s best efforts, he was quickly losing ground. A sharp punch to his stomach made him double over in pain, and Sunghoon took the opportunity to throw him across the room, sending him crashing into a metal cabinet.
Sunoo groaned as he hit the floor, his body aching all over. He tried to push himself up, but Sunghoon was already on him, lifting him by the collar and slamming him against the wall again. This time, Sunghoon’s hands wrapped around Sunoo’s throat, squeezing tightly.
“You should’ve known better than to challenge me, Sunoo,” Sunghoon growled, his face inches from Sunoo’s. “Heeseung sent you here to die.”
Sunoo gasped for air, his vision blurring as Sunghoon’s grip tightened. His hands clawed at Sunghoon’s arms, desperate for release, but it was no use. Sunghoon was too strong.
As Sunoo’s consciousness began to fade, he realized that he had underestimated Sunghoon. Heeseung’s orders hadn’t prepared him for this. He had failed.
With one final surge of energy, Sunoo kicked out, landing a blow to Sunghoon’s knee. It wasn’t enough to free him, but it loosened Sunghoon’s grip just enough for Sunoo to gasp for air.
“You think this is over?” Sunghoon sneered, his voice venomous. “You’re not leaving here alive.”
Sunoo tried to fight back, but his body was weak, his strength nearly depleted. Sunghoon threw him to the floor once more, and this time, Sunoo didn’t get up.
The world around him began to spin as darkness closed in. The last thing he saw was Sunghoon’s cold, victorious smirk before everything went black.

When Sunoo finally regained consciousness, he found himself in a dimly lit room. The cold metal of chains wrapped around his wrists, binding him to a chair. His body ached from the beating he had endured, and his head throbbed with pain.
He tried to move, but the chains held him in place. Panic surged through him as he realized where he was—Sunghoon’s torture room.
The door creaked open, and Sunghoon entered, a smug expression on his face. He walked over to Sunoo, crouching down in front of him. “Look at you,” Sunghoon said softly, his voice mocking. “So weak. So helpless.”
Sunoo glared at him, refusing to show fear, but deep down, he was terrified. He knew what Sunghoon was capable of, and being chained up in his torture room was not a good sign.
Sunghoon reached out, brushing a strand of hair from Sunoo’s face. “Heeseung may think he owns you, but you’re in my hands now. And I don’t plan on letting you go.”
Sunoo’s heart raced in his chest. “What do you want?” he rasped, his throat dry.
Sunghoon smirked, standing up and pacing around the room. “I want information, Sunoo. What did Heeseung send you here for? What’s his plan?”
Sunoo clenched his jaw, refusing to answer. Heeseung had trusted him with this mission, and despite everything, Sunoo wasn’t about to betray that trust.
Sunghoon’s eyes narrowed. “You’re not going to talk, are you?”
When Sunoo didn’t respond, Sunghoon sighed, his expression hardening. “Fine. If you want to do this the hard way, so be it.”
He walked over to the wall, where an array of tools and weapons were displayed. Sunoo’s blood ran cold as Sunghoon picked up a knife, inspecting the blade.
But then, something strange happened. Sunghoon paused, his gaze lingering on Sunoo in a way that made him feel uncomfortable. There was something in Sunghoon’s eyes, something dark and twisted.
Sunghoon walked back over to Sunoo, crouching down again. “You know,” he murmured, his voice soft but dangerous, “I’ve always had a bit of a fascination with you.”
Sunoo’s breath hitched. What was Sunghoon talking about?
“You’re not like the others,” Sunghoon continued, his eyes scanning Sunoo’s face with an intensity that made him shiver. “There’s something about you… something I can’t quite put my finger on.”
Sunoo’s mind raced. This wasn’t what he had expected. Sunghoon’s tone, his gaze—everything about the situation was wrong. He wasn’t just looking for information. He was looking for something more.
“Don’t worry,” Sunghoon said, a sinister smile creeping onto his face. “We’ll have plenty of time to figure it out. You’re not going anywhere.”
