CHAPTER SIXTEEN: LINES CROSSED

The air was tense as Jaeyun and Sunghoon sat on a bench in the park, surrounded by tall trees and the faint chirping of birds. Jaeyun felt a strange sense of peace, a brief escape from the suffocating atmosphere of Heeseung’s mansion. Sunghoon had been kind, offering to take him out for a walk, giving him a moment to breathe.

But even as they talked, Jaeyun couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. Heeseung’s possessive eyes seemed to follow him everywhere, even when he wasn’t around.

Sunghoon shifted on the bench, turning to look at Jaeyun with a seriousness that made Jaeyun’s heart skip a beat. There was something in Sunghoon’s eyes—something that went beyond friendship. Jaeyun wasn’t sure what to make of it.

“You don’t deserve this, Jaeyun,” Sunghoon said softly, his voice tinged with frustration. “You don’t deserve to be treated like a prisoner.”

Jaeyun sighed, lowering his gaze. “I don’t know what to do. Heeseung… he won’t let me go. I can’t escape.”

Sunghoon reached out, gently placing his hand on Jaeyun’s. His touch was warm, a stark contrast to the cold grip of Heeseung. For the first time in a long time, Jaeyun felt safe.

“I’ll help you,” Sunghoon whispered, his eyes searching Jaeyun’s. “You don’t have to stay with him.”

Jaeyun’s breath hitched in his throat. Sunghoon’s sincerity touched him, but fear gripped his heart. Heeseung would never let him go. He was trapped, and any attempt to escape would only make things worse.

Before Jaeyun could respond, Sunghoon leaned closer. His gaze softened, and before Jaeyun could process what was happening, Sunghoon’s lips brushed against his. The kiss was gentle, hesitant, filled with emotions that Jaeyun didn’t know how to interpret. For a brief moment, Jaeyun felt his heart flutter—something he hadn’t felt in a long time.

But then, like a dark shadow looming over them, the sound of footsteps echoed through the park.

Jaeyun’s eyes widened in horror as he pulled back from Sunghoon, his heart pounding in his chest. He turned to see Heeseung standing just a few feet away, his face twisted with rage.

“Jaeyun…” Heeseung’s voice was low, dangerous. His eyes darted between Jaeyun and Sunghoon, his jaw clenched tightly. “What the hell is going on?”

Sunghoon stood up, stepping in front of Jaeyun protectively. “Heeseung, calm down. This isn’t what you think—”

Heeseung’s hand shot to the inside of his coat, and before anyone could react, he pulled out a sleek black gun, pointing it directly at Sunghoon. The tension in the air became suffocating, and Jaeyun’s heart raced with fear.

“Heeseung, no!” Jaeyun cried out, stepping forward, but Heeseung’s gaze was locked on Sunghoon, his finger hovering dangerously close to the trigger.

“You think you can take him from me?” Heeseung snarled, his voice laced with venom. “You think you can touch what’s mine?”

Sunghoon didn’t back down, even with the gun pointed at him. “Jaeyun is not your property, Heeseung. You can’t keep treating him like he is.”

Heeseung’s eyes darkened, and in a flash of movement, he pulled the trigger—though the bullet didn’t fire. Instead, the sharp click of the empty chamber echoed through the park, a warning shot that sent chills down Jaeyun’s spine.

Before Sunghoon could react, Heeseung lunged at him, tackling him to the ground with a fury Jaeyun had never seen before. Heeseung’s fists connected with Sunghoon’s face, over and over, as Jaeyun screamed for him to stop.

Blood splattered across the ground as Heeseung’s rage took over, his knuckles bruising with every hit. Sunghoon groaned in pain, his arms weakly trying to defend himself, but Heeseung was relentless.

“You stay away from him,” Heeseung growled, his voice animalistic, as he delivered one final punch. “You hear me?”

Sunghoon didn’t respond, too beaten and bloody to fight back. Heeseung stood up, towering over Sunghoon’s crumpled form, breathing heavily. He turned to Jaeyun, his eyes wild with obsession, and Jaeyun’s blood ran cold.

Before Jaeyun could move, Heeseung grabbed him by the wrist, yanking him closer. His grip was bruising, and Jaeyun winced in pain.

“I warned you, Jaeyun,” Heeseung whispered, his voice deceptively soft. “I told you not to trust anyone else.”

Jaeyun trembled, tears welling in his eyes. “Heeseung, please… I didn’t—”

But Heeseung didn’t let him finish. He yanked Jaeyun forward, crushing their lips together in a forceful, possessive kiss. It wasn’t tender or loving—it was brutal, a claim, a reminder that Jaeyun belonged to him. Jaeyun’s hands pressed against Heeseung’s chest, trying to push him away, but Heeseung held him tight, refusing to let go.

When Heeseung finally pulled back, his eyes were burning with something dark and twisted. “I love you, Jaeyun,” he whispered, though Jaeyun could hear the obsession in his voice.

Jaeyun knew better. This wasn’t love. This was possession, control, an obsession that was slowly destroying them both.

Heeseung let go of Jaeyun’s wrist, but the mark of his grip remained, a reminder that Jaeyun could never escape.

As Heeseung turned to look at Sunghoon’s broken form on the ground, Jaeyun’s heart sank. He didn’t know how much longer he could endure this.
