The next morning, Erin woke up feeling emotionally drained but slightly more centered. Wieke's advice had given her some much-needed perspective. She couldn't make any rash decisions right now—she needed time to figure out how she truly felt about Lucy and whether there was any chance for a real relationship between her and Lucy after what Lucy did.

Erin reached for her phone, her fingers hovering over Lucy's name in her messages. She had dozens of unread texts from her, each one more desperate than the last. Erin's heart ached at the thought of Lucy suffering, but she couldn't ignore her own pain.

Finally, Erin took a deep breath and began typing.

Erin: Lucy, I've seen your messages. I'm not ready to talk right now. I need some time and space to process everything. Please give me that.

She hesitated for a moment before hitting send. When the message was delivered, Erin felt a mix of relief and anxiety. It was the right decision, but it didn't make the situation any easier.

Not long after, her phone buzzed with a reply from Lucy.

Lucy: I understand. Take all the time you need. I'm so sorry, Erin. I'll be here whenever you're ready to talk.

Erin stared at the message, her heart heavy. She knew Lucy meant it, but the road ahead was uncertain. Could she ever trust Lucy again? Could they move past this, or was their relationship already broken before it really started?

Only time would tell.
