Lucy lay on the treatment table, the messages from Ona replaying in her mind. She hadn't expected Ona to reach out—not like this, not now. The injury, though painful, had only intensified the emotional weight she'd been carrying since that night at the airport. Now, it felt like she was right back where she started, torn between two women who meant the world to her.

The ice on her knee had numbed the worst of the pain, but her mind was still racing. She had to respond to Ona, but what could she say? How could she possibly explain everything that had happened, not just with Erin but with her own conflicting feelings?

Her phone buzzed again, breaking her thoughts. It was another message from Ona.

Ona: I'm sorry if this is too much, Lucy. I just... I miss talking to you. I hope we can at least still be friends, you know?

Lucy stared at the screen, her chest tightening. Friends. Could they really go back to that? After everything that had happened between them, after the night they'd spent together? It felt impossible, and yet, here Ona was, reaching out, offering a lifeline to a part of Lucy's life she wasn't ready to let go of.

But then there was Erin. The thought of her, the memory of their connection—of what they had started to build—was like an anchor pulling Lucy back to the present. Erin had trusted her, and Lucy had broken that trust in the worst way possible. Could she fix things with Erin? Or had she already lost her for good?

Taking a deep breath, Lucy typed out a response.

Lucy: I miss you too, Ona. But things are... complicated right now. I need to figure out some stuff before we talk more. I'm sorry if I hurt you.

She stared at the message for a moment before hitting send. The weight of everything pressed down on her, the uncertainty of her relationships hanging in the air like a storm cloud she couldn't outrun.

As Lucy lay back, her mind drifted to Erin again. She hadn't seen her since she was carried off the field to the medical room.

Lucy sighed, closing her eyes, her knee throbbing beneath the ice pack. There was no easy way forward, and no matter what choice she made, someone was going to get hurt.
