Renzo's grin stretched across his face like a cat who just caught a mouse. "Well, don't just stand there gawking. Come in."
Lila could feel every muscle in her body tense up. Phillip was sitting there, calm, cool, and collected, like he hadn't just been caught having a champagne toast with their biggest enemy.
Noah took a cautious step forward, his eyes narrowing at Renzo. "What's this, Renzo? Some kind of twisted reunion?"
Renzo chuckled, sipping his champagne. "Twisted? Oh, Noah, don't be so dramatic. Phillip and I have been... let's just say, working on a little project together."
Phillip remained eerily silent, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the glass in front of him. It was like he was part of the furniture, completely unbothered by their sudden entrance.
Kira's voice broke the tension. "Phillip, what are you doing here?"
Phillip finally turned his gaze towards them, his face unreadable. "I think the better question is, what are you doing here?"
Lila's heart dropped. Was Phillip... involved with Renzo this whole time? She shook her head, unable to believe it. "Phillip, we're trying to stop him. Don't tell me you're..."
"Stop me?" Renzo interjected, feigning hurt. "Oh, Lila, you wound me. I'm not the villain here. You've just misunderstood my intentions."
"Really?" Jasper snorted. "Because everything about you screams 'I'm the bad guy.'"
Renzo tilted his head in amusement. "Perception is everything, my dear Jasper. But trust me, I'm not the one you need to worry about."
Phillip set his glass down with a soft clink, his eyes finally locking onto Lila's. "Renzo's right. You're all so focused on stopping him, you've missed the real threat."
Lila felt her pulse quicken. "What are you talking about?"
Phillip leaned back in his chair, his lips curling into a smirk that was almost... condescending. "Let's just say, not everyone in your little group is as trustworthy as you think."
Noah shot Phillip a look. "If you're implying—"
"I'm not implying anything," Phillip interrupted. "I'm telling you. One of you has been playing both sides."
Lila's mind raced, trying to process Phillip's words. One of them... a traitor? She glanced at Noah, Kira, and Jasper. Could it be true?
Before anyone could say anything else, the door behind them suddenly slammed shut. They all spun around, but the room was empty. Renzo's chuckle echoed through the room, chilling their bones.
"You didn't really think it would be that easy, did you?" Renzo asked, leaning forward. "This is just the beginning."
The lights flickered, and a sudden surge of panic coursed through Lila. Something wasn't right.
"We need to leave," Noah said, his voice low and urgent.
But Renzo shook his head, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "Oh no, the fun's just started. And I promise you, by the time this is over, you won't know who to trust."
The tension in the room was unbearable. Lila's gaze flickered back to Phillip, who hadn't moved, hadn't even flinched at Renzo's threats. Was he really working with Renzo? Or was there more to this twisted game than they could see?
As they edged towards the door, Renzo's voice followed them like a shadow. "Good luck, Lila. You're going to need it."
With Phillip's cryptic warning and Renzo's games, Lila and her friends find themselves trapped in a web of lies and manipulation. But who's the traitor among them? And can they escape Renzo's clutches before it's too late?
