The tension in the room was palpable as Phillip's warning sank in. Lila's mind raced with possibilities. She had hoped they had more time, but Renzo was always one step ahead. Her heart pounded, and she exchanged a look with Noah. His usually carefree demeanor had been replaced with a deep seriousness.

"So, what's the plan?" Cathy asked, breaking the silence. She leaned against the wall, arms crossed, trying to appear calm, but the slight quiver in her voice gave her away.

Jasper, usually the quiet observer, spoke up next. "We can't just sit here and wait for him to come after us. We need to hit him first."

Phillip nodded, pacing across the room. "Exactly. But if you're going to take Renzo down, you have to be smart about it. He's already sniffing around, looking for traitors. If you make a wrong move, he'll squash you like bugs."

Lila clenched her fists. The pressure of holding everything together was starting to get to her. "I know we can't make mistakes, Phillip. But we also can't let him win. We need a plan that gives us the upper hand."

Noah, who had been leaning against the door, stood up straight. "Well, then, how do we hit him where it hurts?"

Phillip stopped pacing and faced them. "Renzo's empire runs on intimidation. Everyone who works for him fears him, but that's also his biggest weakness. If you can turn his people against him, even just a few, he'll lose his grip. The problem is, they're more scared of him than you."

Lila's mind flickered back to the time she'd seen Renzo manipulate people with just a word or a look. He thrived on power plays, on fear. But there had to be cracks in his armor.

Cathy interrupted the thought, her voice lighter this time, trying to ease the heaviness in the room. "So, we just have to become scarier than the big, bad Renzo? Easy. Who's got a mask and a deep, menacing voice?"

The group chuckled softly, grateful for the break in tension. Jasper shook his head, smirking. "Yeah, Cathy. I'm sure your pink glitter mask will really strike terror into his heart."

"Hey! Pink can be scary!" Cathy retorted, a grin spreading across her face. "Ever see someone wearing a pastel outfit and realize they're secretly the toughest person in the room?"

Lila couldn't help but laugh. Even in the midst of everything, her friends had a way of making her feel like things might actually work out. She loved them for that.

Noah's smile faded as he looked at Phillip. "We need something better than pink glitter and a mask, though. We need a way in—someone on the inside."

Phillip hesitated, then glanced at Lila. "There is someone... but it's risky. I know a few people who might be willing to talk, but they're terrified of Renzo. They'd need protection, and even then, I'm not sure they'd do it."

Lila leaned forward. "Who?"

Phillip lowered his voice. "There's a guy named Lucas. He works security for Renzo. He's seen things—things Renzo wouldn't want getting out. If we can get to him before Renzo does, he might talk."

"Lucas..." Noah echoed, as if trying to recall the name. "Alright, sounds like he's our guy. How do we get to him?"

Phillip sighed, running a hand through his hair. "That's the problem. Renzo's keeping a close eye on his crew right now. If you approach him and he's not on board, he'll rat you out to Renzo, and that'll be the end of all of us."

Jasper chimed in. "We'll have to make him an offer he can't refuse."

Cathy grinned. "Ah, yes, straight out of The Godfather. What could possibly go wrong?"

"Only everything," Lila muttered under her breath.

But Phillip wasn't joking. "He's right. If Lucas knows there's something in it for him—money, safety, anything—he might be tempted to switch sides."

Lila looked at Noah, her expression resolute. "Then we make the offer. We'll figure out a way to keep him safe."

Noah nodded, but his jaw was clenched. "We're going to have to move fast. If Renzo catches wind of this..."

Phillip stood up. "I'll handle Lucas. I know how to talk to him without raising suspicion. But you need to be ready. If he agrees, things will move quickly."

Lila swallowed hard, trying to mask her growing fear. "We will be."

That night, Lila lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling. The day's events replayed in her mind. She was terrified, but the weight of what was at stake kept her grounded. She couldn't afford to let fear paralyze her.

Her phone buzzed with a message. It was from Noah.

Noah: Can't sleep either?

Lila smiled faintly, typing back.

Lila: Nope. Too much going on. You?

A moment later, his reply came.

Noah: Same. But we've got this. We're gonna outsmart Renzo. Just wait.

Lila's heart lifted. Noah had a way of making her feel like everything would be okay, even when it seemed impossible. She typed back, feeling a little more hopeful.

Lila: I hope so. Let's make sure we do it right.

As she set her phone down, she closed her eyes, hoping that their next move wouldn't be their last.
