Jack's POV
Damn it, that girl was stubborn. Why won't she tell me what happened? Then agian, why do I care? God, what was wrong with me? I hated her remember? Argh, my mind was such a mess right now! Charli hadn't been back to school since the day I went to her house. That was almost two weeks ago. She said she had the flu. Yeah right.
My cell rang. I picked it up, causally answering it. "Hey."
"Hey Baby, watcha doing?" Gillian's voice cooed through the phone.
I sighed. I half wanted it to have been Charli. "Look Gill, what do you want?"
"What do I usually want?" Gill said sexily.
Oh god, I was not in the mood for this right now. "Sorry I gotta go, I just saw my dad's ghost."
What the hell? Why was I repeating Charli's excuse? It had just popped into my head. My dad wasn't even dead. "What? You're dad isn't dead Jack." Gillian reminded me.
"Right, then it was the ghost of my hamster that died in 4th grade, but wither way I gotta go. Bye Gill." I hung up.
Whew...
"Jaaaaack!" My little sister, Carrie screamed.
She burst through my bedroom door and flopped onto the bed. "Caaaaaaarie!" I laughed. "What's wrong?"
"Nofin." she replied snuggling closer to me.
I wrapped my arm around her and kissed the top of her head. My mom came in. "Oh hey honey, how was school?" she asked me, looking flustered.
"School." I shrugged.
Mom nodded not really paying attention. "Great, ummm, what was I about to do?"
"DINNER!" Carrie shrieked.
"Oh, right, thanks sweetie." My mom turned, "Dinner will be ready in 20 minutes. Have a shower first though Jack."
"Okay." I said.
My mom turned and left the room, Carrie following behind her.
I stripped and stepped into my shower. Suddenly, I slipped, my foot landing in a large glob of body wash. My head smacked against the rim of the tub. "Shit." I swore.
I brought my hand to my forehead. When I pulled it away it was covered in blood. "Aww crap."
I got up, wrapping a towel around my waist. "Mom!" I yelled.
"Jack if you want to speak to me come down stairs. Don't yell all across the house." Mom said disapprovingly.
I grabbed a wad of toilet paper and put it against my bleeding head. I slowly descended in the stairs. "Mom, do we have any really, really bid band aids?" I asked.
"What did you do?" Mom said, turning around. "Oh my god how did you do that?"
"Uhh, I slipped in the shower."
"No, we don;t have any band aids. But I'll drive over to the drug store and get some."
"That's okay, i'll go. Be back in 15 minutes." I said.
I ran up stairs and threw on a shirt and a pair of jeans. I dashed into my car and drove off.
*****
I grabbed a box of band aids. I turned around. Wait. Was that Charli? I walked over to her. She was intently reading the package of some item in her hand. "Charli? Hey." I said.
She jumped, and quickly hid the thing behind her back. "Ummmm, hi Jack. Wow, what happened to your face?" she asked.
"I slipped. what are you doing here?"
"Uhhhhhh, getting some...GRADVOL. Why?" She stammered.
That was funny GRAVOL wasn't in this isle. i had the distinct impression she was lying to me. Weird. "Just wondering."
We stared at each other awkwardly for a moment. "Well, I better go." I said, breaking the silence.
"Right, okay, bye Jack." she looked away.
"Bye." I said.
Then I turned on my heel and left.
Charli's POV
Oh my god. Jack almost caught me buying a pregnancy test. Shit! What if he had seen? Well, the whole school would know by tomorrow if he had. I ran to a cashier, paid for the test, and got the hell out of that building.
*****
I stuffed the pregnancy test into my purse as I came in. "Hi sweetie, dinner is almost ready. Oh, and Marcus called. He asked me to tell you to call him back." my mom hollered from the kitchen.
I froze. Marcus had called my house? "oh, okay."
Somehow I managed to speak. I ran up to the bathroom, locking the door behind me. I read the instructions on the back of the package, and followed them exactly. Positive. That one word brought my whole world crashing down. Maybe it was wrong. Maybe it wasn't accurate. I tried to tell myself that. But it didn't work. I was pregnant. Pregnant with Marcus's child. I wish i had died then and there.
