LILY POV:
"Miss Evans, if you could come through please, we have your scan results" announced Doctor Brown as I was summoned from the waiting room.
"I can wait here for you if you would prefer, or-" Alex began.
"No you can come, I mean you have come this far, why miss the ending" I replied with a smile.Alex stuck to his word and drove me to the hospital. Doctor Brown, one of my parents colleagues had examined my shoulder, which despite the pain, I was comfortable with. I wasn't too keen on being touched at all by a stranger, although that idea didn't really apply to Alex when he found me and scooped me into his arms.
Alex stayed with me the whole time, and even allowed me to hold his hand, probably crushing it with pressure as the doctor tried to manoeuvre my shoulder and check the extent of the damage before carting me off for an x-ray. If I hadn't been in so much pain, the tingles I felt as he laced his fingers with mine would probably have had a greater effect on me, but the heat spreading through my hand and arm with his kind gesture certainly didn't go unnoticed.
"You are very lucky this time Lily. The scan shows no break in the bone, however the extensive bruising is obvious and will probably cause a similar amount of pain as if it were broken - however it does mean that there is no need to set your shoulder in plaster and you are free to go" Doctor Brown revealed, much to mine and Alex's relief.
"You will need plenty of rest and painkillers the next few days, so yes Lily, that does mean no dancing for a while" the doctor added. As a close friend of my parents, he was familiar with my passion for dance. Dancing was a huge part of my life and I hated when I couldn't visit the studio, but I wasn't foolish and wouldn't risk damaging myself further; worsening an injury like that could be detrimental to my dance career.
"Thank you. As a favour, would you mind refraining from informing my parents about this tonight? I'd hate to worry them whilst they are at work and they will find out for themselves in the morning anyway" I added.
"Of course Lily, patient confidentiality is part of the job - even when I play golf with your Dad" he smiled. "Get some rest and I hope to see you fit and well again soon. Goodnight" He finished before helpfully opening the door for me since the sling I was required to wear limited my movements.
Alex slung his arm around my strong shoulder and looked down at me with a smile as we walked out of the automatic doors and towards his car.
"Well little one, I better get you home before you run away and wreck the other shoulder ay?" Joked Alex as he opened the car door for me and extended a hand to help me up.I wanted to ask about his accent, he obviously wasn't American and so my inquisitive nature caused my mind to wonder about how long he has lived in the states, what his family was like and if he liked it over here. Now didn't really feel like the appropriate time to voice my thoughts about his nationality, although he had been nothing but polite and comforting to me all night.
"I think that would be wise. That was the most eventful night I think I have ever had" I chuckled, looking down at my sling and taking my first painkillers with a bottle of water Alex bought in the hospital.
We drove in a comfortable silence as I gazed out of the window at the houses and streets rushing by. School and my bedroom conversation with Maddie felt like days ago, when Alex was still a mysterious stranger. Now, within the 6 hours since Ana introduced him, he has seen me sobbing in pain and laughing at his ridiculous faces as he distracted me in the hospital waiting room. Alex was a gentleman, I knew that for sure, but he was still mysterious to me. He was quiet and attentive at the bonfire which leads me to think that much like myself, he kept most of his thoughts to himself. Also, Ana's comment about 'not wanting to get on his bad side' stuck with me. Did she know a side of him that I didn't? Was he dangerous?
Before I knew it, we were pulling up outside my house and the car came to a stop. Alex exited the vehicle and ran over to my side to open the door for me. I giggled at his charming actions and accepted his offer to link with my arm, walking me up the steps to my front door.
"I'm sure I will manage from here" I told Alex as I slid my key into the lock and flicked the light switch on, illuminating the hallway in my home.
"Thank you for everything tonight, helping me and staying with me at the hospital. It means a lot"."My pleasure Lily, but before I let you go for days of bedrest and Netflix, let us exchange numbers, I want to be able to check up on you - if you don't mind?" Alex stuttered. He looked at me with a nervous but hopeful expression painted on his face. Was he nervous to ask for my number?
"Sure, here, text yourself" I replied after unlocking my phone and slipping it into his hand. He smiled appreciatively and began typing, until he handed me my phone back and I heard a ding from his back pocket.
Without giving me a chance to think about it, Alex leant in and left a gentle kiss on my cheek before turning his back and walking away to his car. I could still feel the tenderness of where his burning kiss touched my skin minutes after he left, causing the corners of my lips to curve up into a smile and a blush to occupy my cheeks.
With difficulty, I had a shower in my en-suite, removed my makeup and changed into my play suit pyjamas before crawling into the comfort of my bed, only to be met with the sound of my phone chiming with a text beside me. I shut my lamp off and looked over to my phone.
From: Alex the saviour :)
Goodnight beautiful xI grinned like a fool at the name he saved himself as, but more at the charming message, before replying with a simple 'goodnight x' and shutting off my phone and snuggling up in my duvet, only to drift off into a beautiful dream about Alex - the mysterious boy whom I was undoubtably falling for.
AUTHORS NOTE:
Hey! The story is starting to get underway properly now, I hope you are enjoying it so far! I have made quite an extensive cast list, I don't want to bore you with ridiculously long physical appearance descriptions for the more minor characters, but if you are anything like myself, I love to be able to properly visualise the characters, so I would recommend checking out the list so you can build a picture of everyone!X
