Chapter 13: The Path of an ImmortalThe days following Wei Ying's transformation passed in quiet contemplation. Now immortal, he spent much of his time adjusting to the changes within himself. The once fragile boundary between yin and yang within his body had solidified, giving him greater control over resentment and spiritual energy alike. Every breath, every step, felt balanced, as if the universe itself had finally aligned for him.
Xiao Xingchen observed Wei Ying closely, both as his companion and as someone deeply concerned for him. It wasn’t easy watching someone so young bear such a heavy burden, but there was no doubt in Xiao Xingchen’s mind—Wei Ying was stronger than ever.
“Wei Ying,” Xiao Xingchen called one morning, interrupting Wei Ying’s meditation beneath an ancient tree. The mist of the Burial Mounds swirled around them like a living entity, ever present but non-threatening.
“Hm?” Wei Ying opened his eyes, his gaze sharp as he turned toward Xiao Xingchen.
“We will be heading to the Gusu Lan sect soon,” Xiao Xingchen reminded him. “Boa Shan Sanren has prepared everything. But are you ready? You’ve been through so much already.”
Wei Ying stretched, feeling the flow of power within him. He hadn’t felt this confident in years. “I’m ready. If anything, I want to see what the rest of the world is like. Gusu... It’s a place of strict rules, right? Maybe it’ll be good for me.”
Xiao Xingchen laughed lightly, though there was a hint of unease in his expression. “Strict indeed. But remember, you’re not going there alone. I’ll be by your side, and so will Shu Shu.”
Wei Ying smiled, appreciating Xiao Xingchen’s support. “Thanks. I’m just curious about how they’ll react when they meet the head disciple of Boa Shan Sanren.”
“That’s why we’ve kept the truth hidden,” Xiao Xingchen said seriously. “You’ll be introduced as the head disciple, not as her grandson. You’re strong, Wei Ying, but the world of cultivation can be treacherous. Even though you’re immortal now, it’s best to stay cautious.”
Wei Ying nodded. He had already learned that lesson at Lotus Pier.

The day finally arrived for their departure to Gusu. Boa Shan Sanren herself saw them off, standing at the edge of her secluded mountain. The invisible barrier that separated her domain from the rest of the Burial Mounds shimmered faintly in the early morning light.
“Remember your training, Wei Ying,” she said, her voice calm but filled with the weight of her wisdom. “You are more than what the world sees. Stay true to who you are, no matter the challenges you face.”
Wei Ying bowed respectfully. “I will, Grandmother. I won’t let you down.”
Boa Shan Sanren placed a hand on his shoulder, her eyes filled with pride and concern. “You’ve already proven yourself, but the world outside may not be as kind as the one you’ve known here. Be vigilant. And remember—if you ever need to return, you will always have a place here.”
Wei Ying nodded. Her words settled in his chest like a warm flame, giving him the strength to move forward. With Xiao Xingchen and Shu Shu at his side, they left the Burial Mounds and began their journey to Gusu.
